I teach literacy in FE and work with dylslexic students who benefit from phonetic activities to help them develop their literacy skills, with regard to completing assignments. A fun way of practising reading phonetically is to 'say it in french.' Find some simple French (or whatever language)phrases and list their meanings at the side - but not in order. The students look these up in a dictioary and put the meanings in the correct order. This is related to the practise of using nonsense words to practice encoding skills thereby avoiding relying on a sight vocabulary of familiar words.
