I am sharing my experience of doing the "Sticky Letters" activity (from Module 3 of the Synthetic Phonics practical route)
My phonics lessons usually take place in room which also doubles as our school’s music classroom. I decided to experiment the sticky letter activity in this room because there were several musical instruments around in addition to the regular classroom furniture.
I wrote out letter sounds on the sticky notes and gave them out to the children.
Once I was certain that the children understood what they had to do, they started exploring the classroom, enthusiastically looking for objects to stick their sticky notes on. This activity really got them thinking about their initial letter sounds and associating that with the correct object. Before ending the lesson, I chose a few objects and tested a few children on the letter sounds that represent that object, and surprisingly, they remembered most of them.
