I too am undertaking this course as a mum. I have a 4 yr old daughter who is learning through jolly phonics; and a son who has reading difficulties. I'd started doing this course before my daughter started school, but within her first two weeks we were called into school to have 'jolly phonics' explained and what we should do as parents. Following your post I asked and it is common practice in this council but they didn't know about other areas. So I feel very lucky! Obviously some professionals feel the same way that you do. Just an additional point though - some of the actions for sounds can be a bit confusing. My daughter was taught 'er' as a food mixer. We don't have one, she's never seen one elsewhere,so it meant nothing!!! We changed it to a (very colloquial) point at someone and say 'er' (as in distaste) - not very pleasant but so 'rude' that she remembered it almost immediately!!
