Of all my assignments in the Air Force, my six years in the 68th are the most remembered. Because of our many deployments to Goose Bay the wives created a stuffed goose as a squadron mascot. We named it our "Big Gas Bird". On one of our trips to Goose, I think it was December of 1956 another unit, (either the 44th ARS or the 301st BS, I don't recall which) stole the bird and redeployed to Lake Charles with it. Upon discovering that the Big Gas Bird had gone missing, our leaders reported the theft to headquarters and a B-47 was launched from Lake Charles to return it to Goose Bay for the remainder of our TDY. Those were good days.
