I have some general suggestions. First, know some of the genealogical basic rules such as can be learned online at http://www.familysearch.org They have a free tutorial on how to do genealogy. That will help you in all ways as you navigate the Indian path of records.

Now, there aren't many Indian records, as such, for the tribes of the areas you speak of, but here is some general information that might help.

Many Rogers families who claim Indian blood can trace to the Wampanoag Indian, Massasoit. If you look at the many family trees online, you might find several that deal with him and his descendants.

Don't be limited, right now, by the "three letter tribal name". However, there is a reservation in Quebec called "Oka".

The field in which you are endeavoring to work, minus more details on your part, is wide-open.

Go to http://www.dickshovel.com and read about the following tribes. You will see that some of these went out to Kansas very early and, in the process, probably left family along the way in places like Michigan and Indiana and, of course, those left behind in NY.....Potawatomie, Shawnee, Delaware, Miami, Oneida, Chippewa, etc.

The book by Toni Jollay Provost deal with Indians from NY and the NE who went out to KS and the Indian Territory.

Be sure you use the US Census for all pertinent years. Dig deep in the places where they lived: land, court, probate and military records will be important.

Good luck and good hunting. I think you have a good chance of getting a lot more information if you research faithfully and carefully.

KD
