If they didn't want to be known as Indian, they might pass for white or other races. You can access the Canadian Censuses, some of them, online at http://www.familysearch.org and at ancestry.com. You can order others on microfilm from the LDS Family History Center in your area. You can find a list of them at familysearch.org. You can see what records are available on film at that site by clicking on "Family History Library Catalog" and doing a Place Search. Let us know how you get along with this.
