Hi Krislyn,
I ran across your posting while doing some research. this may get kind of complicated, but here goes,
Charles Ouimet was my Great Grandfathers (Levi Ouimette) brother. Marie L'Esperance is actually Marie Talon dit L'Esperance, she was my great grandmothers (Josephine Talon dit L'Esperance) aunt.....Now here is the real crazy part.....Charles Ouimet and Marie L'Esperance were also the godparents of Josephine Talon dit L'Esperance....
Josephine had a sister and two brothers who moved to the U.S. and changed their nane to Hope. They were originally Talon from France, but when their ancestor came from France as a soldier, they werre give a "nom de guerre", a war name, which they used as their surname while enlisted, and some kept this name afterwords......L'Esperance is french for hope, which you probalby know, and there are a lot of L'Esperance descendants, but they are not all related. I am a memeber of the Abenakis, but I believe it is through my Bourgeois ancestory, I have not found any on the Talon L'Esperance line, but I do have a lot of information I could share with you.....
I guess were distant cousins...my lineage with you would be,
My Mother is Lucille Bourgeois
her parents were Dorothy Ouimette and Henri Bourgeois
Dorothys Parents were Levi Ouimette (Charles brother) and Josephine L'Esperance (Maries Aunt)
Levi and Charles' Parents were Joseph Theadore Amable Ouimet and Louise Choiniere m.
Josephines Parents were Marcellin Talon dit L'Esperance(Maries Brother) and Emelie Hebert m. 11/14/1854
Marcellin and Maries parents were Augustin Marcel Talon dit L'Esperance and Marguerite Comette m. 3/2/1829
Augustins parents were Jean Baptiste Talon dit L'Esperance and Josephte Dumas m. 5/30/1797 in Montmagny, France.
Jena Baptistes father was also Jean Baptiste married to Dorthee Bacon, no date.....
All this info is from internet research, message boards, etc. except for my great grandparents, I have no official documentation. But I do have a transcript of my Great grandmothers baptism on april 5, 1871,naming Charles and Mary as the Godparents.
Aas for the Indian thing, i have not found any reference, but my grandmother once told me she thought her mother had Indian in her. Usually the maiden name has a number 8 written in it. this is an anglo writing of the number eight in french, prononunced "wheat", written "huit" in french....I havent seen it anywhere, and I also have some research on the wives of the Talon L'Esperances too.
