Looking for ancestral information on Martha Ellen Wilcox, born 1851 in either Illinois or Ohio. Her father was John Wilcox. According to census records, her parents were born in Illinois. She married Frederick Bohm, of German heritage, on January 7, 1869 in McLean County, Illinois, and can be found in the 1880 census in Clay County, Nebraska. She died in March 10, 1909 in Peoria, Illinois. After her death, her youngest daughter stated that she was a full-blooded Ohio Indian, although some accounts say Iowa Indian. She married a white man to hide her heritage so she wouldn't be killed during the time after the Civil War. My initial research shows that no tribes named "Ohio" existed, although some were found in Ohio. I have found listings for "John Wilcox", but have not found anything specific saying he had a daughter named Martha. Can anyone shed any light on how to go about researching her further?
