 Seeking info on parents of Ernest Benjamin Jackson, born in Portland 1883 died in NY 1941. He listed his parents as Ernest Montana Jackson and Rose Massi, on his social security application. Stated race as Indian. In various documents he has been listed as black, white and on one census as MISC., of all things.
Family story is he ran away from an Indian boarding school/orphanage, that later "burned to the ground". I believe there was such a school on the Warm Springs reservation. Family also heard that one parent was "English".
