From ORAL family history...

James Brannum (a red headed Irishman) was a surveyor for the U.S. Government and was sent circa 1815 to survey the new course of the Mississippi River after the New Madrid Earthquakes of 1809-1810 changed the river's course. He camped along the river as he surveyed it and met Iantha's tribe along the way. Iantha's father was chief of that tribe.

It is important to note that this is merely oral family history, but my grandfather named my father James Donald and his younger sister Margaret Iantha after the couple, and my grandfather was a well-read man.

Census records indicate Iantha was born in 1799.
