Thomas Nelson and Agnes/Cherokee Indian has an official Divorce record from North Carolina in 1736. If there was a divorce there had to be a marriage.
There was one issue documented on the record declaring that he was their 'only' Issue. His name was Abraham Nelson born in 1736. It appears that Thomas remarried
If Thomas left Agnes/Cherokee Indian when Abraham was only a tiny infant, what were the circumstances that Abraham was apparently taken and raised by his father, Thomas? It would have been normal that an infant so young would have had the care of his mother. What happened here?
Nevertheless, Thomas stayed close to his son Abraham because we find on record there were a number of buying and selling land transactions with them working together. Both names were often found on those records. They owned land on the Eno River there in North Carolina. That seemed to be their family homestead for there was a family cemetery on their land. According to Mansel Nelson, my cousin, Thomas' grandson, the land must have been sold for taxes because there was an auto court on the land at the time of Mansel and David, his son's visit there. They said that it was in terrible array. But nonetheless, They found the cemetery.
We must also be aware that this family was living during the period of time of the Revolutionary War. Did they both serve--how did it effect their lives? Can we find more about them because of the War? And what of Agnes/Cherokee Indian, what was happening to her? What was her Tribal name? What of her people. Who were her parents?
Anyone who can shed more light concerning these special family members, would be most appreciated. Let's work together to unravel our understanding of them. Please, be prepared to include your 'research source', of given information so we will not be led into a wrong branch.
Thank you for any time and interest you contribute to this important search. Hope to hear from you, any new information you may have. Just remember to include sources of your findings or thoughts, please.
Thank you ! !
