 I am looking for information about the parents of Martha (Stokes),b.about 1879, John, b. about 1881, and Helen (or Isabel Helen), b. about 1893, Ward. I have several resources listing them as present in Campo, San Diego, CA between 1870 and 1900. They are reportedly of Native American descent. A possible name for the parents is John and Francis Ward. According to census records, he was from Kentucky and she was from US/Mexico.

I am a new researcher to Native American ancestry. I am not sure where to look for CA records. I am also not sure which group of Native Americans (Kumeyaay, I think) the family is associated with. Can anyone help?

Any hints for Native American research would be appreciated also.
