I will agree with you that many of the new breed of bands coming out these days are heavy on the bad attitude, and light on the musicianship and songwriting, and it gets old after awhile.
It seems that it used to be that there were less bands back in the day, but the bands were better.
But now there is a band around every street corner, but they suck.
I have a feeling that because of the internet, and sites like Bandcamp, and the availability personal computers, with software programs that allow even the inexperienced or novice to create a demo with apps instead of instruments, bnow people who couldn' t[and shouldn't] post demos before are now flooding the internet with substandard material
The natural filters of quality have been removed.

Now as far as your "established" bands list, I think you left out two major bands out that should have been in your top 10 list instead of Thin Lizzy; Pink Floyd and Van Halen
I'm not putting Thin Lizzy down, I just think that Pink Floyd and Van Halen were bigger and more influential than Thin Lizzy was.
