I don't agree with everything you've said Holly. What made WCBS-FM successful through the years was playing the music of the fifties, sixties, and seventies. When they pretty much eliminated the fifties music from their format WCBS-FMs ratings suffered. It's my feeling that this is what led up to the decision for them to go with that horrid JACK format. Although I think it's important to add eighties music to the oldies format, I don't believe you can have a successful oldies without fifties music. Since WCBS-FMs return they have heavily concentrated their format on seventies and eighties music. Continuing this way they are doomed to failure. A New York oldies station without artists like Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, Dion, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, The Flamingos, The Moonglows, Everly Brothers, The Skyliners, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and many other vital fifties stars is doomed to failure. It's my hope they will realize this and make the necessary corrections before it fails. Oldies are primarily fifties and sixties music, and although there definitely should be seventies and eighties music played on this station, it should not be their primary focus. I agree with you Holly to mix in doo wops with everything else, but at least play some of it. I just hope they eventually get it right, if they do, it will be a huge success, otherwise it won't last very long. I'd love to see Michky Dolenz back, and the return of Harry Harrison, Bruce Morrow, Dan Ingram, Bobby Jay, and how about other great classic air personalities like Hal Jackson. It would also be nice if they would revive those Radio Greats weekends. I'm hopeful but I'm not fully pleased with what I'm hearing so far.
