As you know, what you are experiencing is only happening online and not on the regular over the air signal.

In commercial radio, stations run tight formats and presentations. For example, when you listen to CBS-FM, things are constantly moving. You never hear dead air or silence on the station. That would cause people to tune elsewhere and when you are a business that relies on obtaining and keeping a maximum number of listeners you don't want that to happen.

In radio, things have to happen at specific times. Commercials are cheduled to run at specific times each hour for either 30 or 60 seconds in length. Advertisers pay for their products and services to be heard at precise times. That's what selling the format to clients is all about.

A lot of times as much production is going on off the air, things will become mistimed. This may cause the computer running the commercials and the other elements of the format to be off when going from the jock to the break. This is not intensional as much production and exact timing of elements are going on off the air.

The production director and anyone else involved has to produce commercials, promotional announcements for the station, and more. This can be done successfully with digital equipment.

An example of this is the excellent montague that we heard a week ago today. It's available on this site. Believe me it took a lot of time and work to make this sound as good as it does.

What I am saying is that what you are noticing on the stream is not uncommon. I have noticed the same situation on www.1010wins.com. I'm sure in time this will be corrected.

I hope this message didn't go on to long and this gave you a little more understanding of what goes on off the air at the average commercial radio station.
