When CBS-FM returned, it was no surprise to me that the first decade (1954-63) of rock 'n' roll would not be part of the format. The only exposure current and future generations will have to it will be through movies and commercials. They can't seem to get enough of that music, but it's too "old" for broadcast radio. I'll bet you'll hear the Boys II Men version of "In The Still of The Night" on CBS-FM from the 90s, but rarely the original Five Satins classic from 1956. For three decades, that song topped the CBS-FM Top 500, a cornerstone of the station's heritage. For those of us who remember the Drake-formatted WOR-FM back in the late 60s, the song was also #1 on their all-time Top 300.

The only place to find these chestnuts is satellite or the internet.
