Jack-FM is working very well at KCBS-FM in Los Angeles. That's because it replaced the failing classic rock station Arrow 93, which had been dying on the vine for about 5 years. Jack-FM has also done well in Dallas, where it replaced a failing adult contemporary format. But in New York as well as Chicago, Jack-FM replaced very successful Oldies stations with legendary jocks. When I heard about the variety of music and programming on CBS-FM in New York, I was thinking why can't the oldies stations in Southern Caliofornia be that cool? Bravo to the return of CBS-FM. I hope to listen to it online when it returns.
Finally, to reiterate the point, just because it works in one market, doesn't mean it will work in another. It's time that stations be allowed to program to the specific market rather than a cookie cutter formula set up by the bosses at corporate.
