Radio exists by selling advertising. If no one wants to buy advertising on your station, you don't make it.

Radio doesn't get its revenue directly from the listener, the way retail does with customers. Advertisers are the middle men. Radio doesn't sell subscriptions. This is about programming a station that will draw an audience that appeals to advertisers. That's how you survive in the radio business.
