There was a well-phrased post on the NYRMB about Infinity going back to radio basics -- banking on their AM assets and considering FM 'experimental'.

Many people have moaned for years upon reading press releases about 'finally getting the sound we've been seeking' and other excuses. In Philly, mid-Nineties, Greater Media took a 3.0 - 4.0 classical musical station and trashed it for a format called 'Max'. It took them years AFTER the pronouncement 'we intend to dominate the market 18-49' to do something in the book. Now, Philly is a different market, but the cheap bravado and bluffing self-assertiveness remains an industry language that's permeated the huge markets.

Hey -- Joel Hollander may be a nice guy and a good programmer, but until he admits that 101.1's move was a gruesomely explicit mistake instead of a progressive and promising vision, he should save his breath and some expense by canning all the denial. We've read too many of these lame press releases already. And it's been five seasons now of lousy numbers.
