The problem is if you read the article, you didn't understand it. There has always been marketing to people over 50. People over 50 buy a lot of products that are exclusive to that age group. Watch the network TV news and you'll see advertising geared to the over-50 audience.

But that has NOTHING to do with radio advertising and why major market radio stations with an older audience have trouble.

Just because CBS-FM billed $34 million at one point doesn't guarantee they'll continue to maintain that level of business. The loss of major advertisers suggests they would not.

The fact that no one has started an oldies format since last June indicates it's not quite the attractive proposition you seem to think it is.
