I agree about overplayed songs, Bruce. In fact unlike CHR, I think everything should be played from the '50s up on an oldies station.

I was told by one of the former CBS FM personalities that at one time, in the days of Joe McCoy, about 2,000 songs were played on CBS FM. This person also said that on weekends during shows like Music for Lovers Only and other "specialty shows", they would go further with what they played from the library although they were not encouraged to do that.

I also think a well programmed oldies station should have up sounding personalities. Also promotion should go on constantly.

Live remotes should be done along with contests and using the station's website to get people aware and excited about what the station offers.

I also don't understand the idea of making an oldies station sound contemporary. I am not saying that you attempt to bring back the British Invation or the Principal of the Year contest but putting a morning team on the air to talk about current TV shows or what a group from the '60s is doing now will not work. The audience that enjoys this music does not relate to those things.
