I hate to correct anyone but WNWS began broadcasting the News and Information Service which the NBC Radio Network was offering at the time in June of 1975. It ended in New York on January 1, 1977 which was sooner than it did in other markets. On that day, the call letters were changed to WYNY and the adult contemporary format or moving easy y97 began.

At that time, some FM stations were still being looked at as tax rightoffs. In other words, some owners saw the AM as the money maker.

Yes Jack is not the first automated playlist in the country. The differences are the following.

First of all, Jack does not have any announcers for anything from music to news, time, weather, etc.

Second automated radio even voicetracked or having the dj record everything in advance has never worked in New York.
