My dial moved back and forth between WMCA and WABC, but I can still recall Murray the K on WINS in the early 60s. At night, KB1520 in Buffalo came in on Long Island like it was in Manhattan.

Of course, I switched stations to hear my teams. The Giants were on WNEW-AM, and occaisionally I had to tune in to their newscasts to find out what was going on with them. The Giants and WNEW were practically married for more than 30 football seasons. Some of us remember home games at Yankee Stadium were blacked out in New York, so we had to tune in to Marty Glickman on WNEW to hear the game.

The Mets are my primary baseball team, so I followed them all over the AM dial. They started in 1962 on WABC, moved to WHN in 1964, later to WJRZ (now WWDJ), then back to WHN. Same with the Yankees. Anybody remember they were on WCBS-AM in the early and mid-60s? Also, anybody remember who was WHN's sports director? It was Marv Albert, who was the rising star during the 60s. He broadcast Knicks and Rangers games.

I never much listened to "beautiful music" stations like WPAT-FM and WRFM, but at Christmas, I'll confess I spent lots of time with them. They'd play a couple of Christmas songs an hour from right after Thanksgiving, then they'd increase it until about noontime on Christmas Eve, when they'd go all-Christmas until midnight Christmas Day.

Just some of my own radio memories from my Long Island youth during the 60s.
