Subject: The end of Pubmeals Review in it's current location?

I do not know if anyone still comes here, but if they do, there is an associated site where I have listed a number of pubs I visited from 1999 through to 2005. Admittedly there was a long gap between 2005 and the prior ones. I have not been in a position to go sampling other pubs in recent years, in fact the last one I went to was my "regular" and even with that one time is being called on.

To keep this site going requires me to dial in to Freenet Name on regular intervals from my desk top, and here is the problem.

My desktop seems to be dying, it takes ages to boot up, has crashed on two occasions rebooted on other occasions and gets slow. I got it in 2002, and in 2005 I had to get it serviced after a virus attack. I do wonder if the virus clung onto the wiping of the hard drive back then.

I use a laptop for most things, and I plug that into the feed from my broadband, but the dial up is still with the desk top.

There have been times when I did not dial in in a set time and my site was suspeneded and I had to pay to get it back. Also getting back to the dial up, I have to use it, if I want to upload anything to the pubmeals review site.

Now I have been trying the dial in at least once a week as I have to use that as well, just to check mail from the pubmeals review email account.

Coupled to these woes, is the fact that even this forum is not well used. Do I get many emails - Nah! I have come to the conclusion, that this site no longer has a following where it is situated.

So now I am thinking along the lines of moving the bulk of the files if I can elsewhere, and reluctantly allowing the domain name to lapse - (I may need to consult on that one.)

So where would I take things? well with the rise of social networking sites, the place to be is Facebook, Beebo or Myspace. Since I am more active n Facebook, it will be to there I will be going, first by setting up a group page.

I will keep the Pub Meals Review forum apprised of details, such as the link to the Facebook group. (Thankfully the forum is not hosted anywhere near where PMR is, and is independent, so will still remain.)

Then, assuming the PC desktop will allow, I will put a pointer on the main site

If there are any fans, still around, it is still possible to look at a group without registering, but Facebook is free to sign up to.

This is quite a sad descion to take as it marks the end of an era, but due to equipment problems, hosting policy and lack of traffic in it's current site I am not sure there is any real choice

I would like to thank those over the years that did give feedback and suggestions or even submitted reviews for their interests. I still to this day believe that eating meals in pubs is nicer to high status restaurants, and will do so, while I can. I hope to meet some more people when I can get sorted on FaceBook
