The rec. officers do have just as much time in this business as many of us and with that being said I do NOT want to see ANYONE losing their jobs because of the current budget crisis.
I do believe that the state and the doc is playing hardball with the rank and file simply because they want to use the rec. officer's as pawns to gain our sympathy then going public with these layoff threats just as they did in 2002 and the rank and file conceded just so they don't have to layoff management jobs (which we all know is extremely top heavy in our business)
It is my honest opinion that they (the state and doc)is aware that most institutions in the state are short staffed
with blue shirts but yet they continue to run job fairs and currently doing background checks on future recruits.
It is also my opinion that the doc could easily transfer the rec. officer position to blue shirts rather than hiring more recruits.
The doc (namely the commissioner and his so called brain trust of assistant deputy commissioners really screwed up by double bunking Suzie-B which created more OT there, created more OT at other institutions to backfill the positions of TRT and SRT members as well but yet they (the DOC wants the rank and file to make concessions to bail their asses out the the log jam they created?)
I say "NO" to that.
Again I repeat we are way too top heavy with high paying management positions and say start from there instead of going after the rec. officers.
I am a correction officer, a proud member of MCOFU and not a rec. officer writing this but yet I did have to write to vent my opinions in respect of the rec. officers and my disappointment of the management and the state of attempting to hang these people out to dry, it is a very cheap and weak tactic on their part.
My support goes to all unit 4 employees that are in MCOFU.
