Subject: THAR BE RAILROAD STEAM LOCOMOTIVES COMIN' THIS WAY

Author:

Date Posted: 07:00:38 06/01/09 Mon

Hello PAS Members:

For those that remember, and for those that don't but would like to see a REAL LIVE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE IN MAINLINE ACTION checkout the Website;

www.261.com

This site will provide you with the dates, and allow you to purchase tickets to ride behind what many people feel is one of the BEST LOOKING PASSENGER TRAIN STEAM LOCOMOTIVES EVER BUILT. It is the Ex-Southern Pacific #4449. It is a Semi-Streamlined Locomotive and is painted Silver, Black, and mostly Red, and Orange. In 1975-76 this locomotive, then painted in a Red, White, and Blue scheme pulled the Freedom Train part of the way across the USA. This locomotive is coming this way under its owen power from Portland, OR with a destination of Durand, MI where there is an event called TRAINFEST2009 that will also feature two other BIG STEAM LOCOMOTIVES, one of them is the ex-Pere Marquette RR #1225. This locomotive is the one used as the pattern for the movie Polar Express. I also understand that there will be a 2010 Calendar published that will feature photos of the 4449 taken along the route to and from Durand, MI. Perhaps some of you might want to find out what tracks the 4449 will run on, and attempt to get a shot for the calendar. IF SO THEN BEST WISHES AND GREAT SHOOTING!

Hi all, a friend asked me to see if there was any interest in his Sigma(Macro)70-210 F/4-5.6 Canon Mount lens. (Yes, you can use it on your Digital Rebel XT if worried about an older lens with the digital upgrade.) It's in mint condition still in the box. See me at a meeting if anyone is interested.
Thanks!

Date Posted: 15:23:36 07/02/08 Wed

Hi, I don't know if this is appropriate, but I recently found a newer enlarger, a Vivitar VI, and no longer need the old WWII era Omega antique, a type C-II, if anyone is interested. It needs some work, mainly a new billows, it's leaky. It has 4 different size film carriers, 35mm up to 4x5, and the lamp is in good shape. I even have an extra GraLab timer I can throw in with it. I have no idea if there is any reasonable value to this thing, and since it needs some work it might not be worth too much, so I'd like to trade for something interesting. It's fairly heavy, and will need to be mounted on a stand or table. The base mount has an odd feature in that it can rotate 360 degrees, so if you wanted to do really big prints you could set it on the edge of the table and put your giant paper frame on the floor, then turn it back over the table for normal sized printing. No contrast filters aside from one red. Anyway, let me know if anyone is interested in the enlarger.

The club should expand the Members section to include each member's photo, name, email address...maybe some personal info, their photography
philosophy, their specialty, what they love to shoot... Each member could submit a self-portrait - it could be serious, fun, creative...whatever style that captures their personality. This would enable everyone in the club to get to know their fellow members better.

Date Posted: 12:06:05 02/08/08 Fri

In an e-mail that I received just today it was announced that Polaroid will discontinue ALL INSTANT FILM PRODUCTS. How many of yu took the Image Transfer class not long ago? Well that process will soon be a thing of our past. Fuji makes two Instant Films, one Color the other Black & White. To the best of my knowledge neither of them would be suited for the Image Transfer procedure. I have, and on occasion still do use Instant Film in determining exposure in more difficult lighting situations as well as checking the accuracy of my light meters. I have a known setup as far as time of year as well as time of day whereby in suing my meters to take a reading and then shooting an Instant Film. I compare the result with previous result to see if and/or how much variance there might be in the readings.
Not long ago I took my 4X5 camera to Ohio, where my wife is from originally, and took photos of some digital age kids while using Instant Film. I think that you can figure that they were BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER when they saw the image in print form so quickly.

As of this writing there are small groups of White Pelicans on the Des Plaines River near the I55 bridge. Exit I55 at Bluff Road, take South Frontage Road (next to I55 South on ramp) along the river. There is a boat ramp on the left (South) side of the road. You can park on either side of the road. Look West at the boat ramp and you will see them pearched on logs in the shallows. You'll need a looooong lens. If they are here then they are probably in the shallows of the Illinois River near Starved Rock. They don't hang around very long.

Date Posted: 08:20:15 06/29/07 Fri

For our June meeting, Beverly gave a demonstation on Cyano Type printing/processing. Terriffic demo.

I just figured out how to make a digital negative.

First, open your digital file (PShop) then copy the layer and use "Channel Mixer" to convert it to greyscale and make adjustments in the red, green and/or blue filter.

Convert the black and white to a negative by using "Invert".
This will convert the image to a B&W negative.

Now, purchase a "Transparency Film" for your printer. Be sure to read the compatability of the film with your printer/ink.

Print the image out on the film and allow to dry. Be careful not to handle the face of the film with fingers as it may leave fingerprints.

I just tried one. The film I have available is not compatable with the HP printer I have but will try to get the HP film or use the Epson film with the Epson Printer.

Good Luck.

Ray

I was contacted by a woman from an organization called TownPlanner who is looking for scenes of Nature related to our general area to publish in a calendar. Initially I sent her some very low resolution scans of a couple of photos that I felt might work. She then sent me an e-mail giving more of the particulars which included a copy of their photo release form. I won't even try to quote the exact wording, but will say that if you were to sign said form that you would in essence be giving TownPlanner your photo, and the right to publish it whenever, and wherever they want to for as long a period as they want to use your photo.

It has come to my attention that Amy Amdur will be producing the Joliet Art Fair taking place in downtown Joliet on Saturday June 30, and Sunday July 1. It is a juried show and carries with it an entry fee of $350.00. It is my opinion that this fee, especially for a first such show in Joliet for quite sometime and with an uproven attendence and buying record, to be outlandish. To date I have contacted City Councilmen Joe Shetina, and Tim Brophy to voice my feelings about this matter. In addition I have talked at length with an artist/painter who I've know for over 15 years, and who makes a living from her art. It is her opinion that Amy Amdur is not much more than a MONEY GRABBER who charges BIG FEES to be in the shows she puts on, but doesn't give much back to the artist. In addition said artist can attest to the fact that Amy Amdur has been booted out of art fairs that she started due to sentiments voiced by particpating artists for the above mentioned reasons.Having said that I'm only sharing my feelings and what I've learned by speaking with others. Should you choose to enter then you do so at your expense and risk!

Date Posted: 03:59:01 01/20/07 Sat

After much deliberation I've decided to sell my 35mm Canon equipment. Thus for sale are the following items;

1-Canon EOS-3 equipped w/Booster that alllows you to BURN FILM at 7 FPS
1-Canon 20-35mm F2.8 "L" Series Lens
1-Canon 28-80mm F2.8~4.0 "L" Series Lens
1-Canon 80-200mm F2.8 "L" Series Lens
1-550EX Flash

Rather than asking a fixed price I'm asking for your serious consideration and best, honest offer. The camera body has seen very little use, and the lenses have no cleaning marks, scratches, of fungus. While the lenses are the first generation "L" series created for the EOS system they cost over $1000.00 each when new. They will still produce sharper, and crisper, or more contrasty images for you today than any non-"L" series lens being currently offered. By the way the Booster uses 8AA batteries which makes it easy to buy batteries most any place you happen to be in case you forgot to bring spares.

If you have TRUE INTEREST in any, or all of this equipment contact me at;

StuartF8@sbcglobal.net

I will respond ASAP and setup a time where you can view the equipment first hand.

BEST WISHES & GREAT SHOOTING ALWAYS!

Hello Fellow Members:

Can anyone tell me if the forthcominbg Polaroid Workshop is limited to 35mm slides, or would a medium format (2 1/4 X 2 3/4), or 4X5 Transparency work as well?

Went to Marlin Camera Store, 2019 ridge rd, Homewood, Il., phone708-799-0019. They ar going out of business the end of March and have loads of used equipment. New stock is discounted at 30% but probably will be lower later on remaining stock.

They ar located at Dixie Highway and Ridge, Downtown Homewood. Fast way is Rt 80 to Kedzie (Dixie is closed at route 80- exit) South on Kedzie to Dixie Hgwy. which goes under the train tracks, follow to DT. Homewood, about 4 blocks, turn right at ridge stop light. store is about 5 stores West from that corner.

I LOVE my Minolta Maxxum 7 (film) SLR but richard sent me this link the other day:

Konica Minolta Cameras will be no more. I don't think I'll get that Minolta Maxxum Digital SLR I was thinking about...

Let's get the ball rolling! I have a question for you Digital guys out there. Does anyone really love their digital camera? If so, what model do you have? Also, do you find the delay bothersome? I know some models have a longer delay than others....
