Thanks Bob and Mike.
That last turn was the culmination of several attempts to put in a big turn. The idea was to establish a big enough lead to hopefully dissuade others from attacking. So I had gathered information on past planets seen, planets other players had recently captured, DLS planets, and a DLS scan in Turn 17 gave the location of all mines at that stage, and I extracted locations of planets with a single mine over them. For various reasons I had trouble completing the last two turns, which left me with a large amount of information to act on. I used every ship possible, even the trade fleet no longer existed - all Bulk Carriers had been dropped by their cocoons, Mtce Ships, Hospitals, Factories, colleges and Monitors became planet takers.
Last turn I did take 36, but you guys took 10. Bob did notice me being more clumsy in my acquisition of planets.
Have a look in the scan resuts at the number and location of Com Boxes. Many are by themselves. In turn 20 I released 4, and built 3 in new areas, and followed it up again the next turn.
DLS also made a nice contribution through the game - he was pretty healthy this game. Flagships with a SEC 3 officer can survive warping to a single mine, so many flagships took DLS planets this turn.
So that's briefly how I did it at the end. But blame Mike for that - I still remember reading in the retrospective of game 27 how he won with a big push at the end. I'll have to write one up for this game over the next few days.
Don.
