A few months back I purchased those LED replacement units for the 1157 bulb (2 element tail/brake light). I think I got the info off the AVA site, they weren't very expensive, so I thought I'd give them a shot.
It looked like a good idea, a bunch of LEDs pointing straight out and some around the peripheral edge, pointing towards the sides (for reflection).
Well, I put them on yesterday and they were NOT brighter than the standard 1157 bulb...I was really floored. Maybe it's because they are RED LEDs instead of white ones (not sure if they make white ones in the 1157 bulb arrangement), but I was really hoping for a much better improvement in light instead of a loss of light...
