The Piggy Backer XL is a great deal with some exceptions. It comes with automotive type wiring which doesn't work with motorcycles. After e-mailing the importer (made in China) and getting zero help from them, I set out to connect the wiring and make it work myself. It was a miserable job to say the least. My Gold Wing GL 1500 was already wired and fitted with a hitch, however, the wire receptacle was a 5 prong round and the trailer plug was 4 prong flat. They don't mix. I ended up changing the brake and running lights to l.e.d.'s and then connecting them to the existing wiring (I had to remove the 5 prong round receptacle and install a 4 prong flat with a converter which I bought from U-Haul). This worked well for the brake and running lights. I then bought amber l.e.d. turn signal lights and mounted them on top of the brake/running lights and wired them direct to the rear turn signals in the Gold Wing trunk. This was really a pain because I had to partially disassemble the trunk and saddle bags on the Wing. This solution worked pretty well but took me 5 days and cost over $100.00. I will always be baffled by a trailer manufacturer that imports and builds trailers for motorcycles and doesn't wire them for motorcycles, and doesn't really care whether you like it or not. Their attitude was "not my problem". Pathetic. If anyone is interested in seeing photos or getting a detailed explanation of what I had to do to make my Piggy Backer XL legal, send me an e-mail at:
