Doc'
I've also have had the pleasure to replace the cable.... Easypeasy, just remove the headlight surround (be carefull there are two screws on the bottom of the plastic and there are two tabs above the light, easy to break if'n your not carefull) remove the 4 screws/10ml bolts that hold the light in place, support the light and move it to the side shine a flashlight up to the back of speedo and you'll see where the cable attaches with a nut like the one at the wheel... If'n you're lucky the end might have came unscrewed from the speedo and all you have to do is hook it back up....... and you find things still hooked up
then you haven't lost any time cause you still would have to do it to replace... remove the cable from the wheel sending unit, at this point try an pull the inside part of the cable... you'll know real soon if its broke... (usually from moisture getting up and rusting the cable)
now remove the part attached to the speedo, take note of where the cable sits behind all the wires and how it goes thru the plastic and pull out the old cable housing and in with the new.. the housing & cable will only fit one way, take your time to make sure the wheel end mates up, tighten 'em up, put the head light back...plastic back.. take it for a spinn........ take ya'bout 1/2 hr.... don't have the part? Carl Leo can get it to ya in a heartbeat, less than $20 (last time I got one for a spare, ya never know)

All the best
