I just read on www.imdb.com's Dark Matter message board that Vzl is no longer in Dark Matter. He was replaced. That's too bad, it sounds like an interesting movie. Maybe it conflicted with filming Comanche Moon. Or maybe there is some other reason...

I went to a Clay Walker concert at the Inn of The Mountain Gods. (Ruidoso New Mexico) It was sold out. Was he forever fine. Hahahaha. I got third row seats, seven eight and nine. Up front and personal view. It was awesome!!! And I even came to work at five and made it on time, just so I could tell everyone too. It was awesome, did I say that already. Oh yeah I did, didn't I.

Twenty pages of handwritten poems and lyrics in the last notebook used by the singer Jim Morrison before his death 35 years ago are to be sold at auction.

The notebook, which is expected to make up to Ł100,000, was left behind in a plastic bag when Morrison borrowed a friend’s home studio to make a tape. It has been kept since by the owner of the studio, Philippe Dalecky, whose girlfriend at the time, Elizabeth Lariviere, was a friend of Morrison’s lover, Pamela Courson.......................

The wait is over for this Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. movie to be released on DVD, it is finally out. The Albuquerque Tribune says, "It's a good good time time".

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
Last night was a wrap up party for DreamWorks after being at Holloman AirForce base filming the movie Transformers. Now it's on to their next shooting locations. But just like the phrase "What goes to Vegas, stays in Vegas, ...
What happened at this location wrap-up party stays, wrapped up.
However... since I was on staff with one other person at the Inn when this took place,
I will say the star studded cast and crew made themselves right at home in the lobby for some fresh coffee and plenty of food in wee hours way past midnight. Michael Bay, the director was there and some main actors like Tyrese Gibson who my co-worker also got a wonderful photo-shot with. "You go Girl"! There were many many others too, like the stuntmen and the former Navy Seal nicknamed "Tiny". But, Tiny wasn't tiny, more like 300 pounds of pure muscle. It was definitely exciting getting to meet the director, the cast, crew and experiencing a slice of HollyWood in this small city over the past several weeks. I wish them all good luck, and much success with their film.

  - It was great for this city that is for sure. Cha chink $ Cha Chink $. And, I did notice the film crew worked some very long grueling hours. So the last night they were here at the Inn, it was good to see them relax and loosen up. I cannot confirm nor deny any such wild behaviors evolved in between the hours past mid-night and the sun coming up though. But I will say, I also met some script writers/producers and they showed me a glimpse of their new script on a laptop called “The Shield”. Later on, Mark Hicks, one of the stuntmen praised the staff and myself. And said in the 16 years of travel he has never experienced such warm hospitality. Perhaps that is why the director and his entourage migrated over and came to relax for a few hours too. And he wasn’t even staying with us, but in a private location. Very cool, indeed. Comanche Moon Filming Updates -- beach dreamin ~butterfly , 11:58:47 05/10/06 Wed [1]
Browsing the net, according to a very recent article filming has started on "Comanche Moon" in New Mexico. It sounds like they had a heck of a time dealing with the wind though. This place can and does kick up some wind too. It can blow and blow all day long. I'm looking outside my window today and see only a slight breeze teasing the leaves on my palm tree. Ah... it's going to be a calm spring day where I live.

In the land of Enchantment, it is great to see our favorite actor, Val Kilmer having a lead part in the six hour CBS mini series called "Comanche Moon". My mom absolutely loved the Lonesome Dove mini series. More than likely she will rave about this series too, esp. knowing it's being filmed in New Mexico and Val is in it. There are other interesting movie projects going on in this desert landscape too. One in production by Touchstone is called “Wild Hog” a comedy dealing with mid-life starring John Travolta and Tim Allen. Awesome huh. Another is an hour long New Mexico drama , which has to do with technology and spirituality. The info. last update was 12/22/05 though so I don't know any more on that project but it is also CBS backed. Saving the best for last, and what a thrill it is for everyone that lives in New Mexico, the movie “Transformers: Prime Directive” will be filming very shortly and within twenty miles to where I live. It has the DreamWorks, Hasbro, and Paramount backing with Michael Bay directing, and Steven Spielberg as the executive producer. Filming for this feature however will be taking place on military installations and off limits to any civilian gawkers trying to sneak a peek at the star studded cast coming to town. Awwwwww... New York is a strange town ...

In 97 we were making a movie just about this kinda thing.
It was called HUGHIE.
It was about a man called Hughie who was a nobody, a bit of a bum, who wanted to be famous, so he started putting up posters of himself, wearing t-shirts with his face on them, etc then in the story, the town catches hold of "Hughie" as a "brand" - all of a sudden, there is Hughie bottled water, street sellers selling everything from pens, t-shirts, other memorabilia, fast food, street art, body art etc Then the newspapers start asking "Who is Hughie?" it's on the front page of all the papers, then his face gets plastered on the big screen in Time Square, the side of the empire state etc Finally the poor guy cant go anywhere without being mobbed, has women hurling themselves at him etc and he goes on a rampage to tear down posters of his photo. ie He wanted fame ... but then when he had it, he didnt want it anymore - but he couldnt escape it.

It was quite good - the director's name was Jessie ??

BUT - what was really freaky was that it was a low budget independent film, and the actor was a total nobody - BUT during and after the filming - because of all the artwork that had been plastered around NY for the shoot, he ACTURALLY HAD PEOPLE COMING UP TO HIM telling him how cool he was, and could they have his autograph?, what he was doing next? etc

ONLY in New York right!!!

It actually launched his career - I must look him up and see what he is doing these days.

It was insane to see how fast the people of New York became hooked on "Hughie".

From today's New York Post:

March 23, 2006 -- VAL Kilmer started popping up in New York a few months ago - or at least his face did. Suddenly and inexplicably, someone began pasting black-and-white images of the smiling actor's head onto buildings and doorways in downtown New York. The images, usually in series of five or six, are often complemented by random spray-painted scrawls, or tags, reading simply "Val Kilmer."
Almost before the posters had dried, people started speculating online about their provenance: Some suggested it was a corporate marketing scheme for a band called "The Val Kilmer Tagging Caper" (a hoax). Others had it as the brainchild of the actor himself - attempting to resuscitate his flailing career by unleashing some iconic meme into bohemian scenes.

"Val is against the defacement of any public property," says his publicist Michael Yanni, adding that while Kilmer won't comment directly on the phenomenon, he is aware of it, uninvolved in it and "definitely intrigued. He is wondering about the why and who of it all."

The why and who of it all can be traced back to, of all places, Canada.

According to Mike Heller, co-founder of the Toronto gallery Artlab, similar Kilmer graffiti began showing up in the city in 2004. "The rumor then was that Val Kilmer was involved, because his career was in a nosedive," he says.

In the spring of 2005, Artlab mounted a weeklong exhibit by the artist, who Heller says prefers to remain anonymous, called "Mr. Brown vs. Val Kilmer." It featured many, many floating Kilmer heads.

"I don't know his influences," says Heller. "But he knows what he's doing."

"He e-mailed me at the end of 2005," says Marc Schiller, co-founder of New York City's Wooster Collective.

"It's just such a silly image - the big smile," adds Schiller. "For some reason, this one really captivates people."

Whoever the artist - or artists - are, they are stealing directly from Shepard Fairey, who bombed major cities with images of Andre the Giant in the '90s.

"At first, I did it as a reaction to all my skateboarding friends who thought they were too cool," says Fairey, now 36 and a highly successful graphic artist. "It was a joke: 'If you don't know what it means, you're not cool.'"

The irony, he says, is that at first, it really meant nothing, and his goal was "making fun of these hipster cliques."

As for the Val Kilmer experiment, Fairey thinks it's likely the work of a group of people who may or may not be in league: "The tags themselves are all different styles - it's like taking a handwriting sample," he says. "Someone who's a real tagger - it looks the same every time."

As for its validity as a public art project, Fairey thinks that its resonance, however cheap, makes it successful.

"When something that's utterly meaningless - be it Andre or Val Kilmer - gets people interested, that's what's fascinating," he says. "It seems to be this Dada-esque street art with no agenda. Or maybe it's just someone who thinks Val Kilmer's cool because he's so passe."

I don't know if I can say it's cool, but graffiti art does capture my attention more so on trains than buildings though. I don’t know why, maybe because trains move, but slow enough to view artistic expression that is not a permanent eye fixation. Admittedly some of it is very pretty with all the vibrant colors, while other decorated carts can be over-whelming gaudy and look more like childish scribble confusion of faded retro-hip designs. Distracted or amused, it’s there and then it’s gone when the train rolls by......................................
We take our glimpses, then what? Are we only left to perspective and reflections of thought. Maybe there's more. What are the artists trying to convey as in personal freedom or type of statement he or she is making? We can look at for example, Basquiat a French artist, graffiti poet, and a friend of Andy Warhol and study his creations too. But how does one interpret it? He dared and succeeded. But was the ride of success too much with the additive of heroine, which eventually consumed him and not the art. A movie was even made about him called “Basquiat” and David Bowie was cast as Warhol. It is a good one to see. There is also a good movie based on another artist “Pollock”, in which Val has a cameo role.
As for the tags of Val’s face all over Toronto and New York, I do find them interesting. Is it pop culture dictating attraction to us, though? Now we have a sculpture of pregnant Britney Spears. The cravings must go deep for this to emerge from our society. A controversial piece or not, what does it tell about our desires in art and what the artists create?

I just read the message on Val's head being post on random things. Thats pretty creative in my opinion, even though they did deface public property which isn't right. What I think they should have done was made posters or some kimd of flyers and handed them out. As for myself, I think that would be pretty cool. I do love random things like that because I'm a young artist myself and it brings out the other artistic sides of New York and Toronto. I'm not avocating tagging, I'm just saying that it was kinda of random and artsy. And, I heard about a site that shows photos of the tagging called Flickr. It's some what like photo-bucket where photos can be used in blogs and such. It's pretty popular, you guys can check it out here.

Gazing at the moonlit starry night
the breeze rustling through the trees
