- How do you find out if someone qualified for Nationals from the WR "O"? -- think they are all going?, 20:55:26 05/09/08 Fri
- Recalled year before at NAN, in Open Champ or within formula at O only ways to qualify (NT) -- me, 21:06:05 05/09/08 Fri
- They made a mistake last year at the O and gave out Nationals Certificate to all the girls who recalled in U12,U13, U14 - they finally noticed in U14 and took the papers away from some of the girls. One of the girls was a friend of my daughter. They didn't catch it in the U12, U13s and I know one girl from our school who is going because she got a paper. (NT) -- SoCalMama, 05:31:07 05/10/08 Sat
- I remember that. It didn't make any sense to me at the time. So...the mistake girls get to go too? (NT) -- v, 07:51:23 05/10/08 Sat
- Yes, I recall that every U12 that made the recall got the NANs certificate. (NT) -- Was there, 08:00:20 05/10/08 Sat
- Your TC has to enter her, and the entries were due on May 1st. I believe the registrar verifies the eligibility. It's hard to think that a paper given in error would qualify the dancer. Hope this all works out for all concerned. (NT) -- best of luck to all dancers, 08:58:12 05/10/08 Sat
- They messed up with the u11 awards also. 39 reacalled (78 danced) and all recalls were given NANs certs. From the formula it looks like 29 qualified. (NT) -- CO mom, 11:29:53 05/10/08 Sat
- Don't you think the hosting school or whoever was responsible (TC?) should have fixed this mistake? It was so unfair to everyone concerned, and has caused bad feelings between dancers, too. They should have corrected it right away. We all knew the mistake by the end of the ceremony and it was discussed on here at length. (NT) -- Noone addressed it, 12:09:58 05/10/08 Sat
- So they took the U14's mistaken certificates away, but not from the other age groups? That's harsh. (NT) -- Not fair., 12:14:32 05/10/08 Sat
- I heard this happened at WQ level, too. One was given out by mistake and the WR gave dancer the okay to go to Worlds. (NT) -- ., 17:51:05 05/10/08 Sat
- In the U15 top 25, they ran out of certificates for nationals, so those girls didn't them even though they know have qualified, it's nice to have the "sheepskin" for your scrapbook. Guess they needed to get it more organized for awards. Oh well - she's going anyway and is still excited. (NT) -- wr mom, 11:49:09 05/10/08 Sat

the many dm's right here in the wr who seem to also be creating works of art for our girls to look and feel fabulous at a fraction of the cost of what the big name dm's offer.
My point question and thought is, how can anyone tell the difference between an expensive "top" dm name dress vs. the wonderfully talented women--all over the world--dressmakers who contribute to the irish dance culture many of them making it finacially possible for the majority to keep our girls in this activity for so much less money?

- Two things that came to my mind--you are fast approaching the cut off date for competing at O (due to 6 month ban) so if you plan to dance at the O, better hurry up. Also, once decision is made and you contact your old TC, be sure to ask if any additional fees are owed--in writing if possible. They can dely the ban if you owe any money. (NT) -- It must be transfer season., 09:20:10 05/05/08 Mon
- When you join a new school, you give your child(ren)'s name, DOB, former school and $25.00 to Western US Region to new teacher. She mails/Fedex's the transfer to the region and the 6months start on mail date (recommend trackable method). Once the 6 months is up you are free to compete. As surprising as this may sound, considering I don't have anything else on my mind, I made a mistake last time I posted. I said that registration without a late fee was until May 10, when actually it states May 2 on feisworx. So we are extending the deadline for entry without late fee to May 12.
The hotel block for feis rooms will remain open at the Holiday Inn until May 9. The block at the Four Points is already full, but as I have mentioned before, the Holiday Inn is REALLY nice.
We encourage everyone to enter the art contest too, as we will be giving 2 art baskets as grand prizes rather than trophies. Also, please remember to sign up for figures if you will be doing them.
I have received a few emails asking when particular grades will be dancing on Monday; at this time I do not have an answer, but I will post updates as I know them.
We are really excited about hosting our first feis, and we look forward to welcoming everyone. Tony Comerford has ordered our beautiful trophies, we will have a podium for all championships and specials, Marley on all stages, raffle baskets, lots of vendors, and dancer friendly food. We can't wait to see you, it's going to be a great time!

Looking for a school for a friend. -- Canadian, 19:22:58 04/29/08 Tue [10]
We live in Canada but a friend has asked me to recommend a school in/near LA. I know everyone will recommend their school as the best but please recommend only if driving time (with traffic) is reasonable for a beginner/advanced beginner. Thanks. Here is what was written to me in terms of ideal location...
We live in Hollywood Hills but Bev Hills is close + we could go to San Fernando Valley.

- This is nice but it makes appreciate ID so much more. Really our kids are way more talented. Dancing with the stars should do ID and then lets see how (NT) -- talented these stars really are!, 06:47:41 04/30/08 Wed
- I'm not sure why you think "our kids" are more talented? What these kids are doing is very difficult and technical as well... and wow... what endurance. They were great, as are some of the top Irish dancers. But I would say clearly, the kids in these videos spent a lot more time dancing than my O.C. Irish dancer does. (NT) -- different from ID, but impressive., 10:35:28 04/30/08 Wed
- Have you ever taken tap or hip-hop? I definately couldnt do that stuff! --
Aine, 08:49:43 05/03/08 Sat
- really, you sound a bit biased to me, it's like comparing apples to oranges. Let us know when your much more talented kids will be doing their nationally broadcast weekly show so we can tune in. (NT) -- ., 16:12:47 05/03/08 Sat
- What an ignorant comment from that parent about 'our kids are way more talented'. Honestly, very few children ARE talented, and in ID you actually see a lot of run-of-the-mill children because it's folk-dancing. Of course there are the truly talented that do stand out in the crowd, but most are very average and great that there is a dance forum for them to enjoy. Traditionally most young ballroom dancers have some connection to the legacy through their parents. It takes a lot of skill, but certainly isn't as elite as say, ballet where the field really narrows and does indeed take talent and body type. (NT) -- ., 16:14:45 05/05/08 Mon
- Just saw that Rince Reno is requiring all competitors to provide an insurance waiver. Login into Feis Productions and print out the form. Lets all get this done ahead of time and help out the people checking us in at the feis! -- See ya there!, 14:29:47 04/29/08 Tue [8]

- I remember back in the day wreally how many people when Celtic Gold did this. Really how many times has a parent sued someone regarding the feis (NT) -- common this is ridiculous, 06:51:42 04/30/08 Wed
- That's sad. (NT) -- period., 10:36:18 04/30/08 Wed
- Why don't they just put some wording in the registration, like "by signing up for this feis, the registrant holds Rince Reno harmless for any injuries, accidents, (fill in whatever) during competition. " Doesn't the facility have insurance for their venue? If you trip or fall at the conference center, wouldn't they have liability??? (NT) -- A simpler way, 11:54:25 04/30/08 Wed
- Whatever, all I know is if you want to dance, you have to sign. Not really such a big deal to print out a piece of paper, sign it and take to the venue. Sounds to me like they tried to obtain insurance without this, but didn't have any luck. (NT) -- I'm happy to sign if it is needed. :), 19:54:58 05/02/08 Fri
- It looks like this is a standard form required by the venue. (NT) -- --, 09:12:35 05/03/08 Sat
- Toe Stands at Prelim level -- SoCal mom, 13:56:34 04/29/08 Tue [9]
Is it possible to place well, maybe even win, in a prelim competition if you do not have toe stands/walks/etc in your dances? DD's podiatrist is encouraging her to limit/omit toes because of problems she is experiencing with her arch due to her foot structure. She hates the idea of having to take them out, but knows she should so she can keep on dancing without compromising foot health. Thanks.

- About two years ago I suffered from stress fractures in my feet, and when i came back toes weren't an option for me. -- more, 14:05:35 04/29/08 Tue
- Wouldn't the answer depend on the competition? If they are all exactly as good and toe walks are considered "advanced", wouldn't that put the girl doing the toe walk ahead? I would suggest you follow your doctor's advice. That is what your insurance company is paying for. Besides, if you don't and she is injured, it could end her time in ID (NT) -- Make right what you can..., 17:06:38 04/29/08 Tue
- I won not only one, but two prelim competitions without any toe stands in my heavy dance, and only a few in my set ( and believe me, the toe stands didn't win me in my set). You want to win in prelims, have perfect technique. Toe stands have nothing to do with that (and I love doing them and am actually quite good atthem) -- !, 17:48:10 04/29/08 Tue
- Yes, it is ABSOLUTELY possible. Open dancers in our school have won 1st going back to their original entry level set. I am talking some of the oldest, hardest age groups. The perfect performance wins the prize. (NT) -- x, 10:42:35 05/05/08 Mon

Cleary St. Ambrose Feis -- Thank you, Cleary School!, 21:40:49 04/28/08 Mon [8]
I know there is a post about this already, but I just wanted to express further appreciation to the Cleary school for giving us another feis in the WR. We had a wonderful time and so did ALL the families we know. This is a huge undertaking and we are so grateful to this school for putting this on twice in one year. The St. Ambrose Feis has always been one of our VERY favorites and we hope that the spring feis will be on again next year. We will definitely continue to support both! Thank you again for all of your hard work and dedication.

- And thanks to them, and other feisanna, who bring in judges that you might see judging a major competition. It helps get our kids some exposure that they might not have otherwise. That's why I like to see the judges list before we sign up. (NT) -- sd mum, 06:59:38 04/29/08 Tue
- Agree. This is one of my favorite venues--the ballrooms are nice and big. Everyone had a chair and plenty of room to spread out. (NT) -- Ahhhh., 07:39:05 04/29/08 Tue

- Rules for changing schools -- Just wondering, 19:32:43 04/28/08 Mon [20]
If a dancer qualifies for Worlds at Nationals and then changes schools can that dancer still go to Worlds after the 6 month waiting period?

- You would have to transfer by mid May to dance at the O in Nov and qualify for Worlds, you have to dance at Worlds with the school you qualified with (NT) -- wr, 17:40:12 04/29/08 Tue
