- The Happy night was a good idea gone wrong. The music of Happy Days was good. The Rin and Stimpy Happy Happy Joy Joy was worth three Advil. - Tim O'Hare is a great announcer. His diction and pacing was excellent. The announcer on Wednesday (sorry, don't know name) had great difficulty pronouncing names, and really butchered my dd's name (to be fair, it's a frequently mispronounced name).         Ok, think of it this way. You know the year the Russian's didn't compete at the Olympics and all of a sudden lesser athletes became gold medalists. Well, they weren't exactly the best in the world, though the they had the medal that would indicate that they were to anyone not in the know.         I have found that it's the range of dancers who stop at the end of HS, with just as many low-placing dancers as high-placing stopping. I found that many of the top 10 in my dd's comp did not go to Worlds, but were at NANs. (NT) -- a different experience when older, 20:39:48 07/07/08 Mon
        I was talking with someone at NAN's who has been involved with ID for years. They said about 10 years ago, a lot of the really good dancers did stop after HS, but it has really changed since then and now there are a LOT more of the top dancers that stay in it longer.         But not at this Nationals. Lucky for some of the N Am dancers to actually place well. A lot of it had to do with the top EUR dancers not being here, but also some of the real competition in that age group have moved on to other things, so it gives the slower to place dancers who have hung in there a chance to place higher than they would with tougher competition (NT) -- /, 21:59:30 07/07/08 Mon

        Ashley's been top 3 for years. She IS the creme de la creme. PLUS she's in a totally different age group than the one being discussed here. How 'good' dancers are is really subjective, especially on a MB because you have no idea of the credentials of the people you're speaking to. It's a useless debate. I think the truth is obvious to everyone. No need to post the obvious, except when people need to be taken down a notch for thinking they're better than they really are. - I seem to remember that it takes about a month to get the final results as to what North American dancers actually qualified for Worlds after overseas dancers & World medal holders were accounted for - if they are checking everything twice to make sure the WQ list is accurate, I would say that it wouldd be worth the wait!! - BFOC has many terrific dancers and should expect a strong result at the NANs. At the same time, Claddagh can expect terrific results as well as Comerford, Wick, etc.etc etc in approximate line with their number of entrants. More importantly, let's wish all of the dancers going to the NANs the best of luck and great memories. I hope each and every one comes out thinking they gave it their best shot. I am constantly amazed by these kids who are able to combine what they love to do with their desire to excell. Congradulations to all Claddagh celi dancers!!!! You guys seemed to sweep away the vast majority of the competition. However I watched the whole 16 and over competition and the under 16 and some of the placements seemed very unfair. Although I am not a fan of this school I do not think in any way the Harney School deserved any place lower than top 5... let alone 14th, 12th, 11th, ect. Don't you think that is a little fishy?

- Even as an experienced dancer (18 years now!) I miss things that my TC and the judges see. Some teams I expect to be on top have small mistakes that are hard to see. Also, dance order does come into play in teams and a handful of great teams may end up lower than expected because they danced too early in the rotation. (NT) -- dancer, 15:05:08 07/05/08 Sat
- Yes, absolutely. I watched the whole U16 competition, I was shocked when Claddagh won. Their team was ok, it was not as good as Ive seen it, no where near. One team (I didnt have my book with me so im not sure who) in green school dresses doing trip to the cottage was awesome. It was fast and sharp, and I thought they would be at least top five if not win. Also the world academy did a really sharp celi too, and they were alot lower than I expected. I was really shocked and dissappointed with the results. but, im not a judge so it doesn't matter!!   - Fast and sharp might not be "in" this year. In years past the trend has been smooth and musical, it's been fast and sharp, and everything in-between. I've seen our teams change from one style to another from one year to the next depending on what the judges want to see.     - I think its riddiculous when traditional celi dances change due to "styles". The type of celi you do depends on whether its a jig or a reel. They did st patricks day so yes-it was smooth and musical, but it lacked a sense of lively hood and enjoyment, as well as technique especially lacking in the lines. The world academy did cross reel, a fast sharp dance, which they indeed do sharp and fast and with great lines and especially good arms considering they were wearing dresses that were not traditional school dresses and did not hide their arms at all. - I agree with you. i understand one of the U-16 girls fell. so i can see that placement. but the over 16 girls in no way deserved lower than top 3. there is something fishy and it wil be sorted out. - This is absurd. These are set team dances and are supposed to be done exactly one way. The judges are looking for very specific things that we cannot see. I expressed my feelings to a lady beside me after one dance, saying how good they were. She was a teacher and noted that two of the girls were on the "wrong foot" for a second or two and someone else missed two "catches". Just give the judges some credit and congratulate the dancers. GREAT NEWS: The Brother's Feis in July (Southern California Feis) is allowing the option to wear shorts and tshirts instead of wearing solo or class dresses if the weather is too hot. The only caveat is that dancers are not to wear clothing that identifies their schools. Thanks for doing that. I love this new trend for the outdoor feises! I've given in to her every whim. She gets everything she wants. I've created a monster. Does anyone else think they "give in" so their child will keep dancing?
Don't get me wrong, she loves dance! She expects everything, and she gets everything. Wonder if it would be different if she were not dancing? Do you cater to your dd/ds's every need/whim so they'll continue what we love?
For example, my dd has no clue how to do chores. I've let her slide because of all the dance classes. My dd NEEDS all the expensive clothes from top name/stores--$40 shirts, $50 pants, wears them once then wads them up in a ball into the closet floor.

- I have to say...that I see it start at a very young age. My dd is 9 and constantly has her competitors come up to her sidestage and tell her how they are going to "beat her today" or "I am going to get 1st today." Most of these little divas need a serious lesson in humility and let's face it, the parents are not teaching it! Although, sometimes its fun to watch karma kick in when the fall on their rear-end during their dance that day or don't place.
