        I agree. My recollection is that, unlike Chicago, the walk from nearby hotels to the WRO was not so pleasant or close. I am sure it will be fine, but we were glad after the WRO that we had stayed at the Marriot and not down the street. (NT) -- fd, 12:03:36 01/10/13 Thu

Great news! The hotel has agreed to extend the cut off date until February 21st based on number of reservations. We are filling up the $99 rate rooms so book now! Details: Irvine Marriott February 9&10, ask for Feis Orange County for the group rate.

Why don't more WR schools offer a feis each year. It seems some schools do not contribute, and just show up and reep all the benefits, without contributing. Is it my imagination or are there several WR schools that cannot get together a feis? - Agreed. Healy in Nor Cal is big and doesn't host a feis. In So Cal, only one San Diego school hosts a feis (Donna Means) and there are a lot of SD schools (I know BFOC hosts a feis and has classes in SD, I'm speaking of the SD based schools that don't have a feis -- there should be at least 2 a year in SD IMO (NT) -- My 2 cents, 09:50:05 01/09/13 Wed

  - Wow! Our tiny school does it every year, and we know exactly what it takes. That's the point. It's a sacrifice that only some make. Why not all? Band together with another school. You can limit the attendance, if that helps, the first year. We never make a profit, and some schools charge a hosting fee to their own students to ensure they don't go into debt.   - I don't think people are really expecting a very small school to put on a feis by themselves, but there are schools with over 100 families that do not put on a feis. Healy is one example, and I think the reason it keeps getting mentioned is because every other medium-large sized Nor Cal school does put on a feis. Healy says on its website it is "the longest running Irish dance school in the world" but it doesn't sponsor a feis, and instead leave that work to every other bay area school. - Anybody can host a feis. You don't have to be a TCRG. Ask your local Irish community to host a feis. Then ask for volunteers from all the area schools and see if you get enough response to actually move forward wih the feis. On-line registration takes away half of the work that it used to take to put on a feis. - I'm sure it will be on the website, but last year there was a two night minimum and that was charged right away. We got wristbands on the day we checked in and the day we checked out. There was a lot of hand-wringing beforehand that the wristband lines would be long and complicated, but it went very quickly and we never had to wait in line.   - Seems like these hotels charge $5 pp/per day for their shuttle, but I read on trip advisor that you can use the free parking lot buses, apparently there is an official Disney parking bus stop at the convention center which is right next door to the hotels. Just wanted to send a note that the cut off date for the group rate of $99 is Monday January 7th! Has anyone ever taken their dancer to a sports physician? DD has been having terrible trouble with pains in her feet all last year that both physio and podiatrist can not find cure/reasons for pain. Podiatrist has referred us to a sports physician, and on googling what they do, it says they specialize in non surgical treatment of sports injuries. So I am wondering if this is just another name for a fancier (more expensive)physio?
Have already spent a fortune on physio visits and eventually gave up when it became clear he had no idea and was just guessing what to do each week, trying a different strapping or even suggesting the same strapping that didn't work 2 weeks ago. At $70 a visit we said goodbye to him! Podiatrist sent her for an ultrasound where they injected her with cortisone in both feet which made no difference so he at least admitted it was beyond his experience and suggested the sports physician. DD is 19 and thinking it might just be easier to give up dancing than to try more expensive visits that will end in her still having the pain.
Podiatrist says he thinks it is the nerves in her ankle being squashed when she points her toe or goes up on her toes that sends a stabbing pain through the arch of her foot. She only gets the pain whe she dances, she runs on a treadmill everyday for fitness and does not have any pain at all from running, but put her dancing shoes on and after 5 mintues she says it feels like someone is sticking a knife in her arches. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

- Yes, our Children's Hospital has a pediatric/adolescent (goes through college athletes) sports medicine department that treats athletes and dancers. Took DD to the orthopedist there for an eval, then to their attached PT clinic. Since they work exclusively with young athletes and dancers, and also in conjunction with MDs, the treatment is very focused. Worked wonders for my DD and was covered by insurance. Airfare has dropped again and am looking to book flight while it's still low. Does anyone have last year's schedule (they said they should be following the same schedule again this year) and can tell me what day U20 open Champs dance and if they danced morning or afternoon? Nans. In the process of planning. I'm looking at flights into CA from East Coast and LAX seems to be the cheapest. I have a couple of questions. - cab would be far and expensive, public transport in southern california is not great and personally I wouldn't ride on it out of fear, but us southern cali's are whimps. rent a cheapie car at lax and drive over, our freeways are huge and easy to get around on (NT) -- that's my advice, 16:36:23 12/30/12 Sun

    - OMG...it is not that bad. I ride public transportation all the time. But, you really wouldn't work getting into Anaheim anyway. - Flying into LAX is fine--it is not the closest airport, but often the cost savings at LAX are worth the extra effort versus a closer airport. You can easily find a shuttle service. Tired of the cold weather and snow? (If you are in those northern areas) If you�re in the warmer climates come join us anyways in Orlando Florida for the first ever jointly held NAFC Championships. These Championships are normally held separately at different Feiseanna throughout the year but due to multiple requests we are trying this year to hold them all together at one site and on one day.
The NAFC Championships, the Gerry Campbell Senior Belt, the Robert Gabor Junior Trophy and the George Sweetnam Minor Trophy and the NAFC Music Scholarships will all be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Hilton Orlando. The Hilton Orlando is a beautiful resort hotel with lots of amenities. For those of you that are not familiar with the Championships they are open to any Championship dancer who has placed 1st place in Open Championship in the year preceding the event so from Feb. 16, 2012 until Feb. 9, 2013. We will also offer a �step down the line� competition for these dancers in both soft and hard shoe.
For dancers who do not qualify for the Belt or Trophies we will be having Traditional Set dances on Sunday, Feb 17, 2013. In addition we will be offering grade exams for levels 1-6 during the day on Sunday and in the evening will offer grades 7-10.

Registrations are now being taken at eFeis.

Hotel rate is $149 a night and will available for 3 days prior and 3 days after the weekend. Go to our website: www.NorthAmericanFeisCommission.org for links to get this special hotel rate but hurry as once the rooms are sold out we will not be able to obtain more. The room rate ends on January 25th.
We have also been able to obtain discount fares for both Delta and United Airlines, information available on our website. In addition we have a discount for transportation from the airport to the hotel.

- Depends on what you are looking for and where you live. If you are out of state and want something warm, go to Arizona. If you want something close to snow for the Holiday weekend, with History to visit. ie State Capital, Sutter's Mill (and not saying there isnt history sites in AZ) - outlet mall in Vacaville (I know, not historical but great shopping) then perhaps the Kennelly Feis.         That's not true, it is only the Eastern Region that requires 3 PC firsts to move to OC, not the MW. And plenty of dancers don't get to the podium in OC even after a year.         Know of ER dancer who was podium in first OC feis, after only doing two rounds in PC. ER is highly competitive. Know of many more who never make it to OC in ER, much less even place -ever- in OC in ER. It comes to the dancer, not the number of rounds being danced.
