• Wigs for Sale -- email inside, 23:25:04 08/04/08 Mon [3]
  I have a Camelia Rose "Anna" wig (dark brown)and an "Ella" wig (also dark brown) for sale. They were each only worn about 3 times. They are in very good condition. Someone with more patience and talent than I could make them look brand new, but I'm just terrible at recurling/restyling. Selling because they didn't end up looking right (1-color, the other-length) on dancer. I'll include brand new wig conditioner spray w/ the first one sold. I can bring them to the Claddagh Feis this weekend if anyone's interested...

  • I think the "hassle" may have been directed to the registration process. We are so lucky to have Feisworx for most feisanna, it is great to be able to check on the number of entrants, which schools are registered etc. To say nothing of the convenience of paying online.   As many of you are aware, our web site experienced some technical difficulties and also caused an email problem. I would like to extend the following info:
  
  Because of the problem, any entry received via email by 8 p.m. on 8/5 (Pacific Time) will have their late fee waived. The email should include the following:
  
  Dancer's Name, Date of Birth, age, Dance school, competition number (see www.claddaghdance.com/feis for the syllabus). If you are unable to do that, be sure the list Reel B1, Light Jig B2, etc and I will figure it out. Entry is Champs $35, Grades $5 each, Specials $10 each, Family Reg $10.
  
  If you already included a late fee, we will refund at time of registration pick up only and hope that maybe a few raffle tickets would be purchased.
  
  If you have sent an email with an entry, I will be sending an email to all on Monday 8/4 confirming.
  
  Schedule - it will be up on our web site tonight 8/2.

  • First of all it is clear that any style of dress you want will be OK! Personally I think the really flouncy tulle skirts and puffball skirts are rather distracting and will likely be a passing fad, not an enduring trend. I've been told that many TC's and AD's do not like them. Maybe keep that in mind when thinking about future resale value. IMO think the most elegant dress style is a velvet bodice, lace sleeves, 4 or 5 panels with a small frill of lace underneath. But really: (NT) -- anything goes !, 10:29:20 08/03/08 Sun

    • The schedule can be found on the Syllabus on their website. Go to Claddaghdance.com, hit the link for the Gold Coast Feis and hit your choice of format for the Syllabus. Scroll down to the bottom and you find the schedule. Over 12 on Saturday, U12 on Sunday. It shows the order of the competitions though it does not identify the hour. Hope this helps.   We are looking at Corrs champion shoes --we have had these in the past, and they are very comfortable from the start. However, it seems as if the heels are smaller and shorter than the others. Also, the back leather has begin to hang over the heel, making it more difficult to get clean sound. The comfort of these shoes, however, cannot be matched.
  
  Looking at Fays--the most popular in our school. Seem very basic, light weight, no frills, hard shoes. A nice "look" because they are narrow. What do you think of the Fays brand? Not an OC dancer--just started prelim. So there seems to be a certain amount of "control" when the shoes don't have all the padding and comfort of Corrs. What have you been happy with? Any help is appreciated.

  • One of my friends got Corrs and the heel fell off within a week. Don't know if that's typical, but that's what I've seen. Fays and Rutherfords are generally the best - Fays for slim feet, Rutherfords for wider. (NT) -- >, 23:23:06 07/27/08 Sun
  • Our teachers reccomend Rutherford or Fays for champions. After that it's how they fit your feet and how they look. The rutherfords are suppose to have louder tips and wider, the fays are a narrower sleeker looking shoe. (NT) -- That all the help I can give, 23:26:35 07/27/08 Sun

  • My TC reco's different styles depending upon age of dancer and level (will they outgrown them before they're broken in?). My DD "needs" Fay's as she has a very narrow foot and narrow heel.   • I would recommend calling the main offices as well, they are often very helpful. Sound is relative based on the ability of the dancer. Have had luck with Fay's and Corr's.   Please no commentary on the schools...We just need info about which schools to even consider. We do not want our dancer on the road for hours going to dance class, there just won't be time for that during college.
  
  We are from out of the area, and just would like to know which schools are a reasonable distance from San Diego State University. Say, a one hour limit -- though closer would be MUCH better.
  
  Advise about traffic IS appreciated, as I know it can be an issue in this area.

    • I disagree with your commute time guesstimate. Traveling from SDSU to San Elijo which is the precise location, and no matter which route you take there is horrible traffic, up to 1 hour each way if student is attending their champ class.   • Why use the instant bronzer? There are many brands of tanner that give great (not orange) color. Lay on a towel to sleep, great color and a shower in the morning! We've never had so much as a brown mark and don't have to shell out $ for excessive pairs of poodle socks. It usually takes 2 nights of self-tanner, but it's so worth it! But, when she is perfecting a step, or learning a new one, she tends to dance around the house, store, sidewalk, school, etc. almost continuously. How do you measure that time?   We're thinking of flying to the Boise feis. When I look at last year's results, I see many instances of group sizes below 5 competitors. Will age groups be combined at this year's feis? If that's not the philosophy of this feis, could you give a heads up. Helps with decision making when feis dollars are tight.

  • This is a small, easy-going feis with some of the nicest dancers and parents and volunteers that you'll ever see at a feis. Most competitions have at least 5 dancers, but not all.   • I would think it depends on the age group & level at most any feis. Some age groups are huge no matter what level, others are small - maybe email the feis coordinators and see what the history has been of the age group/level you are thinking about. My DDs have gotten fantastic trophies at the Boise feis and their groups were nicely-sized. Lots of room last year too in their arena which gave us a chance to spread our stuff out.   • My daughter was 10. Her eyebrows have always been thick, but with a beautiful shape. They are also LONG. She just needed the unibrow cleaned up as well as everthing around the natural shape. Oh yeah...and trimmed. Look around for someone who has done kids. Make sure they understand exactly what you want. We were lucky and found someone great.   • My DD was about 12 when we took her to our hair stylist to have her eyebrows waxed and cleaned up. Both daughters go now and they look fantastic - natural too with no plucking allowed! Yes, the whole plucking thing can go too far making them too short, too thin, etc. For those of us who have DD with thicker eyebrows, having them waxed by a professional stylist is worth it. Even our 18 yr old daughter won't touch her eyebrows with tweezers any more and goes to get them waxed because she loves how they look when someone else does it.   • It means she is just "tipping" the floor in her hard shoes when she is trebling/rallying. She's not hitting the floor and getting the full sound.
