  Saw a girl, her mom and grandmother trying on dresses at Feile Denver. Later I noticed each time she danced against my daughter she had a new dress on. She test drove them all. I saw them leave with the dress they walked in with ( 1st dress she danced in).

  • I'm surprised none of the sellers saw her. I once caught someone at the feis wearing my "for sale" costume in competition. I was shocked, and I confronted them and then they did pay me a rental fee. Their excuse was that they tried to call the number on the dress to ask, but I didn't pick up, so they just helped themselves. The gaul of some people is unbelievable.   • Welcome to Canada! Are you referring to the West Coast Championship Feis (POD Feis)? If so, the Feis hotel (HI Express) is about 12 minutes from the new Venue, and gets good reviews, though we've not stayed there. We have stayed at the Sheraton Guildford (about 9 mins from the Venue) and really liked it. Nice rooms, nice hotel, good location, good room service! We've also stayed at the Coast Surrey (12 mins away) but it was just OK. The Sandman Suites Surrey Guildford is another good bet (10 mins from venue).           • We haven't been to the Penk Feis before, so I can't give you any specifics, but we have been to many Feis in the same area. I did a quick checked on Feisworx and saw that there were 15 dancers in U14 last year, and 10 in U18. Both of these were combined groups. Hope that helps!       • That started out with someone saying that "Oregon has lost all their big competitions" then someone said "Oregon has lost all their competitive feiseanna" then the next person said "Oregon has lost all their competitions."   seems like my kid's comps are always the largest -- meaning her age group -- and it's tough always competing against 20+ kids -- but also know this is the norm back east. Just strange how things fall...her younger friends consistently compete against 10 or less but we always have these huge groups. Every once in awhile, a feis breaks the groups into 2 groups -- are there rules around this or just "discretion?" Just wondering.

  • Have her call the hotel and give them your name and the nights you will be taking. They will transfer the reservation for those nights to you. • Results for Ladies 18-19 in Boston.... -- Grid Garda, 22:38:04 04/05/13 Fri [67]
  We are not in Western, but just finished a detailed review of the Ladies 18-19 Worlds results and thought BFOC may wish to do the same. First point is that a recalled dancer, No. 194, was “disqualified” because she was unable to dance her set. Per CLRG Rule 8, disqualification only applies to dancers who do not complete their first two rounds. Once a dancer completes those rounds and recalls, she keeps her Round 1 & 2 Irish points and is placed overall (mandatory set score of 0, and cannot receive World Medal, but she is placed – not disqualified). Results in this comp should have been based on original R1/R2 scores, not “reallocated” R1/R2 scores.
  
  Second point is that even if disqualification was considered right, the subsequent “reallocation” of Irish points was wrong. “Reallocation” just removes disqualified dancer’s scores from tabulation (Rule 8 again). Disqualified dancer No. 194 had no grid scores above 12th place. Grid scores change only 1 point per place below 12th. The most any dancer could have gained by removal of No. 194 from tabulation was 10 Irish points: 1 extra point from each of the 5 adjudicators in R1 and again in R2 (7 ADCRGs, but toss high/low), as lower-placed dancers moved one place further up the grid. The reallocation used in Ladies 18-19 added 611 Irish points to the R1/R2 totals used for overall results (as compared to pre-reallocation scores for R1/R2) – an average of more than 16 Irish points per dancer. Some dancers received more than 50 additional Irish points. Dancers’ relative positions in R1/R2 were also significantly altered by reallocation (see, e.g., No. 198 who placed 19th in R1/R2, but dropped to 23rd in R1/R2 after reallocation; No. 106 went from 22nd before to 19th after). The reallocation method used was flawed and does not comply with CLRG rules.
  
  Ladies 18-19 should have been scored conventionally, with all 39 recalled dancers placed according to the sum of their original R1/R2 grid marks (minus high/low) on the first two pages of the results sheet, and their R3 grid marks (minus high/low) on the last two pages of the results sheet. Those numbers are easy to run (it helps to recreate the scores in a spreadsheet to sum, rank and compare pre- and post-reallocation). The results change dramatically, with 23 of the 39 dancers finishing in different places. Anyone with the Ladies 18-19 results sheet can easily duplicate this. Only one World Medal position is affected: a BFOC dancer who is shown at 18th on the results sheet, but who moves to 15th under conventional scoring (17 WMH in this comp). We thought you might want to take a closer look at the Ladies 18-19 numbers and possibly discuss with CLRG.

    • It's not rocket science; the average smart person can easily figure out how the scoring works and pick up errors. We put so much money into this that it is perfectly normal to scrutinize the marks. I am not great at math, and I never took statistics, but I have easily spotted tabulation errors. If I had these marks I would double check now that the OP has brought it to light. I would think it would be important to everyone in this age group, as it would add another WQ spot at the O.   • If the dancer had placed no higher than 12th in R1/R2, then the most any dancer could have gained by removal of No. 194 from tabulation was 5 Irish points, since the points are given on the basis of combined raw scores. And the dancers that place higher see no increase (If the removed dancer was 12th from one judge, only 27 dancers move up 1). And, dancers that were in 52nd or lower would only move up to 51st and still receive 0 points. So the average points gained per dancer should be less than 4.   • These tabulators have made a few mistakes in the past at major events. In fact, this method of scoring, with 7 judges for combined R1/R2 and 5 for R3, was used for the first time last year, and there was a bug in tabulation system that was discovered after results were given for the first competition. She should have been given zero's as raw scores, and given the lowest number of irish points allowed based on the number of recall dancers (39th place I believe). I'm not sure a DQ was correct.         • I think you are correct that there should not have been an overall DQ. Even if the DQ was correct, I certainly hope they make sure that the R1/R2 reallocation in the future does not include only recalled dancers. If it did, then they should change it so that there is a reallocation in all comps after recall, otherwise not all comps would be on a equal footing because they would be scored differently depending on whether there was a DQ in the set round.
