Opinions on the new Emerald Key solo dresses as seen at the Oakland (CA) feis? My impressions inside. -- Veteran ID Mom, 23:18:41 10/19/09 Mon [38]
I had a chance to look at some sample solo dresses at the Emerald Key booth on Saturday. After going through 12 years of solo dress changes with my dd, I found the EK dresses refreshingly simple and elegant. As I also dance as an adult, I appreciate their light weight and the comfort (stretch velvet) vs. some of the scratchier, fussier materials. The dresses I saw had darker colored bodices which could be embellished with crystals for more "sizzle," as well as embroidery. I'm not a seamstress, but the construction seemed decent, and they were nicely lined inside. Last but not least, they're so much more budget-friendly than the overinflated BNDM dresses. In looking at the reduced numbers at the feis, we need costuming to be more affordable for "the masses" to keep ID families from dropping out. Kudos to EK. By the way, it's always such a pleasure to talk to Chris. He's such a sweetheart.

Great customer service- Tony did an in-person fitting and called us to tell us the dress was ready and described it in detail. Very impressed, Cannot wait to see it. - I am in agreement also. I thought them well made and budget friendly as well. I fell in love with the dark blue one with the Point that they had at the Oakland Feis, and was equally surprised when my daughter's TC showed it to me and said it would look good on my DD. - I think time will tell. My dd says her BNDM dress helps her place her arms. The skirts are made with this in mind I am sure. Unless dancer has perfect arm placement I would be careful with the fully soft skirts. (NT) -- They are cute though for the little kids, 10:11:13 10/20/09 Tue
  - As an adult dancer who wears a simple stretch velvet dress, I'm sure our younger girls will figure this out and adjust. I don't think judges are looking for absolute perfection. - I will be delighted if these styles catch on. We always felt the old stiff dresses were awkward to dance in, difficult to travel with, hot, and too much for our modest family budget. - I think the confusion lies with the difference between their off-the-racks and the custom mades. If you do your homework and research like this wise op, you'll better know the truth and never waste $3000 on another id solo dress again. - OK the bottom line is Chris' dresses are cost effective because they are cheaply made. I don't see big name kids in those dresses at all!   - I don't know about all situation there but we had a DIC dress made a few years back and it was a nightmare - the only decent part of the whole transaction was the Emerald Key rep. Chris here in USA - he was incredible with customer service, the dress never was made right, but EK went above and beyond to help us- they had to clean up the mess from the Overseas DM for DIC, the dress was really bad, so I am glad EK are doing their own thing - I wouldn't use that particular overseas dressmaker ever again it was horrid for us (NT) -- My experiecne with DIC was really bad, with EK great, 09:41:04 10/22/09 Thu
    - I'm the OP of this thread. I had the same EXACT experience with DIC. Chris was fantastic in taking the order, measuring my daughter, etc. When the dress finally came, it was ghastly.   - Have you actually seen them in person?- not cheaply made at all. I have seen all of the BNDN dresses up close (Gavin, Siopa, Elevation, Doire, Michelle Lewis etc) and the craftmanship is equal if not better. True, they are a simpler design, but not cheaply made. - Don't know, but here's the basic day - Start early (8:00 a.m.), miss lunch waitng for recall, dance again, miss dinner due to nerves, awards run really late, buy dinner out of vending machine due to restaurants already being closed. :^) (NT) -- Plan on a looooong day, 15:07:24 10/19/09 Mon
- You know which day(s) your child will dance, right? They will most likely start at 8:00. Recalls are announced by about 2:00 but could be as early as 12:30. Comp finished by about 5:00. You should be in awards room by about 6:00 to get a good seat. Awards usually around 7:00. Bring lots of healthy snacks because a nice meal can be a problem.   - And, 10:00 p.m. may not be late enough when you factor in the travel time to the Denver airport, possible weather, and advance checkin rules. What would you recommend I use for my daughter's tan at her first O? I've never done it before, am a bit nervous. Does everyone tan for the O? What about face and hands?

- my dd just usually gets a full body spray tan to avoid the awkward dark legs and a white bodyat school and such but this is not necessary.you could also just use bronzer on face no need to tan hands and it would look good on stage. but legs is a must (NT) -- dancemom, 18:22:46 10/18/09 Sun
- DD uses the gradual tanner from the Body Shop. Works great & gives nice even results. (NT) -- No name, 18:41:32 10/18/09 Sun
- 2 or 3 days before dancing, my dd shaves her legs, exfoliates, and starts using L'Oreal or Banana Boat foam with bronzer. She uses several coats over the next few days. When the weather cools down, see if your dd wants to do a 'test run' that will be covered by her pants so that she has some practice before the real thing. Downloading music on a Mac -- frustrated, 14:41:02 10/17/09 Sat [8]
We were unsuccessful in downloading a Dean Crouch set dance and I'm wondering if anyone knows a trick for this? We can't 'right click' being on a Mac (or, don't know how). The music never downloaded and I'm out $6.00 :~(

- This just happened to me days ago too. I have a MAC and it will play on my MAC, but I can't get it to download on to my hard drive so I can burn a disc and I can't get it to go on my IPOD. I'm looking at the schedule for tomorrow and it shows the 6 year olds and the 8 year olds dancing back to back for B1 and B2, but not the 7 year olds and 9 year olds. Ozark Mountain Feis in Branson, MO -- The Committee, 14:05:24 10/15/09 Thu [1]
The Ozark Mountain Feis in Branson on January 30 has moved its venue to the new Branson Convention Center. This new location will give us plenty of elbow room and put all the stages, vendors and concessions in one large space. There will be no hallways to navigate and no dashing from room to room to catch multiple dancers or risking missing a dance while you grab a bite to eat. Stages are elevated and covered with dance vinyl for the safety of our dancers. The Convention Center is connected to the Hilton with lovely rooms overlooking Lake Taneycomo, Branson Landing and the Ozark hills. Branson Landing, with its many shops and restaurants, is right across the street. We are so excited about this upcoming feis and hope to see you there. Entries will open on feisworx soon.

  - I understand, my dd went through this too, but she did move up at 13 against 18 yr olds as you put it- and when you are ready you too will move up, splitting to smaller groups is not a real solution - it only gets WAY harder and especially in champs, so if you are ready you'll move if not yet, then enjoy where you are for now. Thanks to someone on the boards for a great tip - I use the tiny syringes from the pharmacy and put the glue in there first.     - When I take a break from gluing, I wrap the whole syringe in aluminum foil, and it keeps it fresh for a while. After a day or so, it will harden/clog, so I start with a fresh syringe. Walgreens gives me 3-4 at a time at no charge. I take the plunger out of the syringe, and squeeze the E6000 tube in the other end, filling the syringe almost full and then putting the plunger back in. It's still not a perfect system, and I will get "strings" of glue at times, but it's better than squeezing the glue out onto wax paper - it hardens too fast for me that way.
