Subject: Why does Irish dance have to be so "all or nothing"?? I would rather see a dance continue with solo dancing, and forgo teams if that is what they enjoy/or can afford/or class times work, than see them quit all together... I just don't get the "devote your life to this, or nothing" attitude. (more)
In reply to: interested observer 's message, "I'm curious~ How many of you out there are at a school where they have the rule-"You must be on a team to be allowed to dance your solos at the "o" ?" And what do you all think of this? Any conflicts?" on 06:26:44 06/06/08 Fri

It starts to feel like Irish dance is some sort of cult or religion.

What exactly is wrong with just doing solos... or just doing teams, if that is what you like?

I'm all for teams, and my dd did them for 5 years, and had a blast... but now, she is too busy to commit, and we live too far from the location where teams practice. Thank goodness our teacher doesn't expect her to quit just because she is growing up and has other things in her life.

This way, she will probably continue to Irish dance into college...if she was bumped out of solo comeptition because she couldn't do teams, she would probably quit now. What would be the benefit in that??
