• Will they be verified based on the formula? Were the certificates that were given out personalized and recorded somewhere? We also know people going based on the erroneous certificate.   • I don't think the certificate is by any means your ticket in. Your TC still needs to enter you and they should not be sending people that they don't think will do well. I would be willing to bet that no one actually verifies qualification. It is too time consuming. Besides a teacher can move a dancer up at their discretion to open champ. Then they would qualify.       • Yes you must move up with 2 prelim wins , but can move up without, TC can move you to OC, also if not placed 12or 3 in OC can go back to prelims (NT) -- been done seen it, 07:50:11 05/11/08 Sun
        • Yes, but if you move at teacher discretion, you can't go back. We have a girl that has NEVER placed in a prelim, who is not National quality, who somehow got a recall and was given a certificate in error. So she gets to go to "National" practices, can't keep up, and other kids with consistent top 3, but needing 1 more first, placings are sitting back, and are better able to handle it...unfortunately its an injustice.   • There was a kid that didn't even recall nor was she in Open Champs attend Nationals a few years ago. We were all shocked...and she was too old to be in the discretion of the teacher. Some teachers must not go by the rules and they apparently don't verify. (NT) -- anon, 22:28:58 05/10/08 Sat

• Yes, there were errors in certificate distribution. It is difficult for the teacher to be the bad cop and strip the child of her certificate at time of entry when it was given to her by the awards people. It is a demoralizing at best. It should never have happened. I think an official list should be mailed to teachers after to prevent this type of mishap. There were some large competitions that they all got them, and some smaller ones that barely any got them. It was clear something was amiss. (NT) -- Oppsies, 11:37:59 05/28/08 Wed
  • Maybe they shouldn't announce qualifiers at the O, if they can't get it right. Certificates could be sent to the school, qualifiers could be posted on WR site, lots of other options. Nationals doesn't announce WQ right away. O organizers should have stepped up and fixed this right away. Still, I couldn't imagine going knowing I didn't REALLY qualify.
