I am hoping someone can give an indication of what time the U15 Open Championship for this Feis would be on Sunday 3/3. We would be coming on an early flight that morning and want to make sure we will be on time. Any tentative schedule information would be greatly appreciated. Really hoping to attend this Feis! - I looked at last year's schedule and the U15 Open Champs were scheduled for noon (right after the lunch break), but they might not use the same schedule as last year. Question for San Fran locals: Two feis dads and two dds are flying in to San Fran feis, and should be done by noon on Sun. Flight out isn't until 9:20 p.m. They'd like to see some sights, but won't have a car to leave luggage in (hotel parking is $40!). Conejo Valley: March
Wild West: April
Long Beach/McCartan: May
Feis at the Fair: June
Brothers of St. Patrick: July
Claddagh: August
Hidden Valley: September
St. Ambrose: September (two that month!)
Harvest time: October
Oireachtas: November
Christmas feis: December
And then just enough time to get ready to do it all over again!
Now I look at the schedule and on feisworx and there seems to be nothing in the works after Conejo Valley. What happened? Did everyone just give up or something?

- The problem is that most feisanna operate at a loss or just barely break even (leaving nothing for the up-front costs of the following year's feis). Even ones that people seem to think are "bigger" tend to lose money, and the balance comes out of the school's/teacher's account. Sometimes you're looking at thousands of dollars. Costs keep going up, but numbers are still generally going down. I think the region really needs to look for solutions to keeping more feisanna up and running. - Having outside choreographers is not against any competition rules and is normal in the performance industry. Most people are not great at everything. Just because someone is a fantastic choregrapher or dancer does not make them a great teacher, and just because someone is a great teacher does not make them a great choregrpaher. I applaude schools that recognize their strengths and weaknesses and supplement where necessary. That is the sign of a school truly after their dancers' best interests. But I am very familiar with the ballet world and outside workshops, master classes, etc. are very common and very helpful for kids. I think it would be terrific if there was a space on Feisworx and other feis management systems, where the information about specials and Perpetual Trophies could go.
When you look up a special it says, (Dance, Age, Name of trophy). Some of the stories are so interesting and amazing. I notice that often the stories are not told in the ballrooms anymore; probably to keep the feis on time.
I think it would add a layer of history to the feis, without slowing up the day.

  - WOW! you really are a very ungrateful and bitter person! Everything you mentioned was something that was beyond anyone's control. In case you live under a rock, there was a blizzard that prevented musicians coming to the feis. The music was fine. The announcers were great. Letting a child dance hours later is UNTRUE! Letting a child dance up an age group because they missed their comp (because they weren't ready) was very kind of the feis committee. Oh and the internet, provided byt THE HOTEL cut out for 10 minutes! If you are that impatient to wait 10 minutes for your child to get her medals--it sounds like not much would make you happy! The tour is dancing tomorrow (SAT night) in Cerritos in the LA/Orange Co area.
