Just a quick reminder that the First Annual Crossroads Feis, Friday-Saturday October 9-10 in Provo, Utah, will close registration on Saturday September 26th.

Also, there is a feis rate at the Provo Marriott of $79/night.

Placing out extra kids from the host school -- is this done in WR? .... -- WRMom, 10:51:55 09/22/09 Tue [19]
This thread is on the ER board. According to a feis tabulator (who posted with his full name) this is common instruction at feises -- ie, the host school says to the tabulators "if the next one down the line is one of ours, place them."

Is this commonly done here in the WR? I'd never really thought about this before. What are your thoughts on this?

        I want to preface this by saying I don't care at all that they did this, but it did in fact happen. You are right that feisinfo did not list the dancer online, they only listed the actual placers. You are right that everyone got a trophy on Sunday, this happened on Saturday when only the placers got trophies. In one of the Saturday comps they called up one more dancer that is not listed as a placer, gave her a trophy, and she was a host school dancer. I think it's fine, but it is the facts.         Annie McBride is the most kind hearted sweetest, non biased person you could know. If she cofuld, she'd give all dancers trophies. I've seen her help dancers from other schools, , try and help them remember a step at side of stage, put them out to dance and tell them to smile and chin up. The last day if there are extra trophies she orders committee to give more places to all comps no matter the school. She wants to see ALL kids go home happy.     - What you may see at EBF is if there are 19 in the comp, rather than give 9 places (half of 18) we give 10. We don't discrimenate on who is next in line. We choose to be generous with our awards at all levels of the Feis because all dancers work hard, and we want them to feel rewarded for their hard work. - At our feis, we only place the trophies that we have. Last minute entries often cause a feis not to have enough trophies, which is a bummer. This year, my dd should have placed and got a trophy as she was the next in line, but she did not. TCRG does not believe in making special exceptions for our school only. Would not be fair to others.     - that is a scary mentality, that just because a school hosts a feis their dancers deserve something extra is wrong. It makes people question the validity of ID and schools hosting feis and this proves it. It doesn't change the results, it does show favoritism to the host school. - Many older three and five panel dresses have a single ruffle at the bottom of the skirt. My understanding is that the rah-rahs are the tiered skirts (usually three tiers). BUT they have a point, the prizewinner groups in those age groups are fairly small, couldn't they do it before lunch a difference of about 20 minutes.         The other reason feises are using this schedule is because of the recent rule of no solo dresses in beginner dances. When you set your schedule up for all U13 to dance at the same time on different stages, there is no time to change from a solo dress to a beginner dress and vice versa. The cost of Marley flooring is so expensive, it wouldn't be easy to purchase them, and some people don't even like them. Dancers still slip and fall and sometimes get serious breaks with marley. I bet it wouldn't be covered under insurance. Most feises are running red or just about breaking even by running a feis.

- Yes, it is expensive. However, it lasts for many years under near daily wear. Marley bought for a floor would last about forever. It is not slippery nor does it provide to much friction. Does anyone know how much it would cost to purchase a "set" of marley pieces? Enough for an entire feis -- say, two Championships stages, and several "levels" size stages?

Wouldn't it be great if all the dance schools in each area (nor cal, L.A., San Diego, Portland, Seattle, etc.) could get together, and hold some fund raisers, and make enough money to purchase a set of Marley floor coverings that could be used for ALL the local feises.

Wouldn't that make more sense than each school trying to buy their own set?

Just a thought.
