WR! How is it that you can have 2 feisanna the SAME weekend and one not have their PC dance sets and still get to move to OC???!!! -- WR not playing Fair, 00:44:56 01/21/13 Mon [55]
PC Dancers in Sacramento didn't have Set round and Az did , that doesn't seem fair at all that seems like an easier road to OC if you ask me!

    - Look, it will never be uniform. Some kids get their firsts in large groups, some kids get their firsts with the minimum of 5. Some kids compete in double age groups, some in single. There is no NAFC rule that champs comps have to be 3 rounds. My DD moved to Open in 3 round competitions with a lot of dancers, but I could care less if someone else got there in 2 rounds or with only 5 dancers or whatever.         If you read the post again, i think the reference is TC moving PW to Prelim to make parents happy when dd are not ready. A lot of kids moved to prelim without being ready.         Well actually, I think everyone should stop worrying about what other dancers are doing, how they got to PC/OC, their TCs decisions, and just focus on their own child, and irish dancing would be so much better off. - On the east coast, I don't know of ANY feis that offer a 3rd round in prelims. If you have some feis that offer it, that is a special added extra. I think it sounds great to give prelims the opportunity to dance it, but it has never been a requirement so I don't see how you have the right to act as if prelims who do the normal 2 rounds as "cheating." I am confused about how they placed specials at the Feis in the Desert. I noticed that they announced a certain number of dancers, but on Feisworx there are more dancers placed. Why even list them on Feisworx if they they didn't actually place? Or should that have really placed at the feis? -- ..., 18:54:01 01/19/13 Sat [3]

- Don't forget that Southern Californians love to go to the beach on holidays (or any weekend, for that matter). Don't be surprised if the parking lots fill up as the day goes on. A little further north of HB along PCH at Bolsa Chica is away from the pier/activity and can be a better choice. Great hiking around the reserve, too.         1. I never said I was specifically referring to Hostess. 2. If they had taken the money in the beginning to help the workers, there would have been no need for mediators. 3. The company went into bankruptcy in the first place because of bad management decisions, not because of the union. 4. I did just look up the Hostess bankruptcy, and the union merely was not willing to accept wage and benefit REDUCTIONS, not asking for increases. There has to come a point where people say, it's not worth it to me to continue to do so much for less and less.         Any worker in a trade, even if they aren't in a union, benefits from unions. I have worked in union hotels and non-union hotels, and the only reason the workers in the non-union hotels get the wages they do is because the unions bring up the local wage and the non-union hotels have to pay it as well or lose employees. Same goes for my husband the plumber, who is not in a union, but benefits from the union pay wage. We lived in Arizona for a while and he made the top of the pay scale in 1 year - $17/hour.         While I understand wanting to support mom & pop stores, the issue is not where you purchase goods, but what you purchase. If you purchase something made in China at a mom & pop store, you have helped 2 Americans: mom & pop. I booked a room in the Hilton for NANs through the group website and I just checked my bank and saw that I was charged a deposit of $223.47. I called Hilton and was told my room rate was $190 per night, not the $150 on my confirmation email. They are looking into the problem. Anyone else that has booked into the Hilton might want to check their reservation/deposit too!

- I made the mistake of filling in the names of my dancers on the reservation and they assumed they were adults and charge $20 for every adult over the first two names. I had to call and say those were kids and they removed their names and just put the total amount of people in the room. I looked at the schedule for this year, and there were a few Western Region Feiseanna from past years not on the schedule. I did not see: Feis at the Fair, Comortas an Chosta Oir, or The East Bay Feis. Also didn't look like the Southern California Halloween Feis was on the list. Did I miss them in there, or does anyone know if these are occurring this year.

Also, it looks like the Silicon Valley Feis is on the schedule for July 27 weekend!

- See if you can use your debit card at a related bank overseas to take out cash in the local currency. There is a small fee but usually the cheapest option.   - I vote for Park Place Inn, too. Also look at the Fairfield Inn a few doors down. Have heard great things about the Howard Johnson just a few (more) doors down. Keep in mind that the hotels (motels really) around Disneyland are more about a place to shower and sleep (maybe a quick swim). It's all about going to the parks at the hotels and motels surrounding Disneyland. But it's very easy to stay within walking distance and not pay an arm and a leg.   - you may want to do two days at Disneyland. there is slot to do now with two Parks. and it will be crowded due to the holiday weekend. you also might want to go to universal studios one day and maybe the beach.
