- Years ago, the Victoria Feis (held in Sydney) had a fun figure that REQUIRED dancers who didn't know each other (i.e. from different schools) to put together a 2 or 3-hand. - Just went to a feis on East coast that had a "Luck of the draw" four hand. Kids from different schools got paired together (randomly by committee) and had about an hour to practice before dancing. Get your Halloween costumes ready and join us for our new feis dates--

Registration is now open at Feisworx for our 7th Feis Orange County (yes, 2 in one year!). The feis will be held on October 24 and 25, 2009.

We are returning to the Doubletree Hotel (the site of our February feis). The hotel address is Doubletree Hotel Anaheim/Orange County, 100 The City Drive, Orange. The hotel website is http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/SNACCDT-Doubletree-Hotel-Anaheim-Orange-County-California/index.do.

These are our new dates--we will no longer have a feis in February.

We have a fantastic group rate for hotel rooms of $99.00 ($20 less than the February room rate). The cut-off date for hotel reservations at this Irish dance rate is October 1, 2009.

The preliminary schedule is as follows:

SATURDAY: All championships, all ages; all championship specials; 13&O First Feis and 13&O Beginner through Prizewinner and special competitions; Catherine O’Connor Memorial Special, music competition, and all adult competitions will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009.

SATURDAY: Halloween special--Our “fun” special danced to reel music. Halloween costume or attire must be worn. This special will be danced at the end of the day on Saturday.

SUNDAY: All U7 through U13 First Feis through Prizewinner and all U7 through U13 special competitions; and all Team Competitions will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2009.

I am aware that there may be Homecoming games and dances this weekend as well as SAT’s and will keep that in mind when the time schedule for the weekend is prepared. If this will affect your dancer, could you please e-mail me and let me know? My plan was to have the high school age dancers scheduled for the morning so they could go to Homecoming dances, but if more will be affected by SAT’s, I may need to change that.

  - The dancers in Ireland are very strong at majors because they have so many feisanna throughout the year. I would think all TCs would want their dancers to have actual competition practice right before a major. Our teacher thinks there is nothing like actual feis experience to prepare for a major.   - I am sensitive to that issue and it will be reflected in our decorations and theming that we do.       - Do you celebrate Hannukah? If you're not Jewish, you probably don't. Some religions don't believe in celebrating holidays that don't belong to their religious sect. Previous posters claim that "many" people don't celebrate Halloween, so many, apparently, that the poster thought that if the name of a special were changed, more people would sign up. I was very surprised, since I was not aware that so many people don't celebrate Halloween. Why not just answer the question and enlighten those of us that don't know.   - I am one of the folks who was waiting to see which judges are expected due to workshop conflicts. We have 1 PC & 1 OC dancer. The way this feis is running, we could have a conflict on 1 stage that would also create a conflict on the other stage. That would throw the schedule for the entire feis for the entire day. - Correct me if I am wrong but I think you have two options. One is the "Mexican Riveria" that time of year will be cool until you get past Cabo. I've never been on that cruise but I have to say the Mexico is getting a pretty bad rep in the Southern CA area for bad crime, even against tourists. The other choice is to go further North and take an Alaskan cruise. There are also Hawaiian cruises from LA but you are better off flying unless you really enjoy cruising, (NT) -- Good luck, 21:59:11 08/21/09 Fri

My dancer is having a hard time wearing her new ones and keeps going back to her old ones even though they cramp her toes.

- There is a way to bend the shoes that helps break them in quickly. It is not as you might expect and very difficult to explain. Ask the TC and the more experienced dancers. It involves bending the front tip back toward the heal so the front of the tip touches the front of the heal....but you have to do it so the bent leather is right at where the sole of the shoe meets the front tip. Two new specials added to syllabus per request: Adult Reel Men Special(One reel step down the line) Competition 950 and Adult Ladies Slip Jig Special (One Slip Jig step down the line) Competition 951. Both specials will be available at Feisworx.

My daughter has been struggling to find a pair of hard shoes that fit. She has long, feet, about sz 8 womens. The "bridge "of her where the arch is, is very narrow. She doesn't, however, have narrow heels or balls of her feet. Fays drop too low on the heel, Rutherfords are better, but they buckle out on the bridge. I was reading the various threads and comments about the Claddagh feis. For our family, it was a great event and we were very pleased to have been there. Reading some of the postings from the few folks (or one) that want to gripe and complain, I started to wonder why people take the effort, spend days and weeks planning then a hard weekend executing, just to get this kind of abuse.

Stopping for a moment to think about it, I am pleased to say that the answer came to me. They do it for the kids. They do it for the people who came, enjoyed, and will come again. They do it for the pride and pleasure they received knowing they have done their best and that the effort was greatly appreciated by nearly everyone there...the shrieks of joy, the smiles and clapping for friends, even when a dancer hasn't placed themselves. They did it for their own love of ID.

So, here is my thanks to all the volunteers from North to South, from large feiseanna to small, for all the good times you have allowed us to share with one another! 3 cheers to you!

- I dont go to Claddagh school, but have to agree that at the host feis there are huge numbers of entrants from that school. That combined with the fact that most teachers really practice their dancers up hard for their own feis, as though it's a major itself, there is no wonder many competitions are won by the home school feis. And, to top it off, Claddagh dancers usually place high at majors as well, so I think the feis organizers and volunteers should get some credit and not the constant criticizing. - I am not from Claddagh. I brought my niece and my daughter to support this feis even though it was a long drive. My niece moved up in 3 of her 5 dances and she has not even done that at our own feis. She was so happy to get a first in a sea of Claddagh dancers. I have never seen her so happy!!! She has a renewed zeal for Irish Dance after this weekend. She loved her first place trohpy for winning the single jig and beamed with pride when she called her mother to tell her all that she had won!!! It made me cry to see this kid's confidence given such a boost with just one day of irish dance. - Not sure what people define as a resort, but it does have two different pools on site, lots of restaurants, a day spa and salon. The grounds are beautiful. Lots of lush landscaping with gorgeous roses everywhere. Why not check out their website: http://www.towncountry.com. It is alot of fun and much bigger than a normal hotel. Hope that helps!
