Subject: The Granny: Chapters 5 - 8



- Trevor continues to work on the mini-paintings for Maria. She still has no idea they are from Trevor.

- Trevor attempts to attend what he finds out later was Maria's going away party, but it turned away.

- Cathy & Mick marry in August.

- Soon after the wedding, two of the Browne boys move out - Rory (who had come out of the "wardrobe") and Simon (who moved in with his girlfriend Fiona).

- Trevor graduations with top grades and takes a job in London.

- July 1981: Agnes celebrates her 49th birthday with a few organisms. *g*

- Cathy is pregnant, but we learn her marriage to Mick is abusive and unhappy.

- Dermot and Buster conduct a little Breaking & Entering and come face to face with a lion! *g*

I had one question. At the beginning of Chapter 6 there is this statement:

"Agnes Browne's six living children were now all adults. It seems incredible that in their adulthood five of the six should still be living at home. However, this is not unusual for an Irish mother."

What does this comment insinuate about the Irish culture?
