Subject: I've already discussed much of my thoughts on the Bucino-perspective. I think it was brilliant and unexpected. Because Bucino can move about Venice with freedom, we get to see much more of the world than we would have through Fiametta's eyes--she is pretty much cloistered in her house. I think if the book had been written from Fiametta's perspective, it would have been very limited. Also the La Draga storyline would have been very strange.

  • I was in bed through the night (not sleeping, as usual) and thought of the second question too. Bucino's perspective gives us a much broader view of the times represented in the book, he travels in many different circles and rather slips 'under the radar' often. I really enjoyed the story being told through his perspective, from feeling used by Fiametta to being a true partner. He interacts with a variety of people, giving us a more complete look at the times. Fiametta's POV would have been narrow and constrained and far less interesting - she was mostly concerned with her looks, and fighting the signs of abuse and aging - not that exciting. • Exactly. I initially thought using Bucino's perspective was a surprise, but the more I think about it, the more logical it is. Hearing the story from La Draga's perspective would have been rather interesting. (NT) -- PeggyB, 09:08:06 05/11/12 Fri
