Subject: Q) I seem to trust David, so I don't think he'd try to trap Casey in anything. I think he cares too much for Patrick to set up Casey. Q2) I would be scared to death, but I would cooperate at every command and pray the soldier wasn't feeling "squirrely". Q3) I don't know actual reasons, but I would guess being close to the border makes it a place easy to smuggle guns/money/men/supplies from the Republic to support the IRA cause. Q4) I was very worried about the friendship between Kate and Pamela. It seems too close to the problems that Pamela is always telling Casey to stay away from. Their friendship can create a perception that, if seen by the wrong people, the Riordan family is still involved with the IRA or are spying.

Replies:

  • Q1). I really like David, and trust that he will do his best to keep Casey safe, though not everything is within his control. He's Patrick's brother, so Casey's well being is important as David wouldn' want to cause Patrick to grieve for his brother. 2). I would have done everything I was asked to do, shaking in my boots and ready to pee my pants. No sass from me - I would have been very scared! Q3). Like Nalana said, due to its border location?? Q4). Pamela is lonely for female company, and even if spending time with Kate is dangerous (as mentioned by Nalana), Pamela is going to take the chance. Not only did they survive a terrifying experience that has bonded them, but they each understand what is at stake by living in this country - the complicated politics (to say the least), but also the love of the country and the passion, perhaps misguided(?), of its people.
