Chapter Seventy; The Force That Through the Green Fuse…

July 1975

Casey, Pamela and Conor have stayed at the cottage, where Casey has been healing. Not only has his physical injuries faded but his fear has eased as well.

Pamela has found herself restless and takes advantage of Peg’s offer to watch Conor for her. She is nearly at full term with her pregnancy, and heads in to the oak woods near the cottage for the afternoon. Pamela has a deep sense of the forest and how it feels to her. She feels as if she has entered into different place that she feels very comfortable in.

Finbar is along for the walk and she has is enjoying her time to herself. She feels the forest all around her and to her it has the feel of a presence that is neither good nor bad, just there. Pamela hears Finbar let out a sharp bark and she hurries to follow him and see what he is about. She finds him scratching at the ground and there is something there he has found. It is a stone with strange markings on it. She wonders if it may be an ancient fertility stone. Just as she touches the deep hollow of the woman’s belly on the stone, Pamela feels a sharp pain. She is going into labor.

She is able to make her way to an old oak tree and realizes she will be giving birth there in the forest. It begins to rain and the pains are increasing, of course the thought of death is lying close by in her thoughts. Just when she feels the baby crowning, Pamela calls out for Casey and then she feels hands on her own hands. A woman is there and she is ready to help Pamela with the final moments before the baby is born, a daughter.

Father Terry has found Casey and told him his wife has given birth, in the forest. Casey arrives home to find the cottage bustling with women taking care of things. There on the bed are his wife, son and new little girl, Isabelle. When he takes his wee one in his arms he falls instantly in love with his precious girl.

Q1)Do you think that Pamela’s love for the sea and plants was how she felt the “Mother” part of the world, since she didn’t have her own mother?

Q2) What is it about Pamela that “others” or something feels comfortable with letting her know they are there?

Chapter Seventy-one; Summer’s End

August1975

Pat has been spending the summer at Casey and Pamela’s cottage, taking care of the animals and the garden. He has found himself staying there because of the closeness of Kate’s home. She was coming to his thoughts often and while Kate was maddening to him, he couldn’t seem to tell her to leave him alone.

Pat had taken Kate to visit Pamela and Casey one day, and they had a lovely day all together. Casey questions Pat about Kate, when they find themselves alone towards the end of the day. Pat denies any romance, but he knows deep down there is something more between them.

Sometimes on Friday evenings Pat would find Kate waiting for him on the bench under the porch. This night she is not there and there is a storm coming in, so Pat thinks she probably won’t be coming. So he goes about getting Pamela’s horse, which is grazing in the fields, back to barn before the rain starts. As a loud thunder booms, the lights go out, Pat trips and hit his head while the cat bolts across the kitchen. , and a knock comes from the door. Kate is there and she has walked through the storm by herself after a fight with her brother.

Kate comes straight to the point and tells Pat she wants to spend the night and yes in that way. Pat asks for a moment to think about what she has just told him. He knows he wants this with her, but he feels such guilt towards Sylvie. As he struggles with his final decision he hears his father’s voice from a memory.

’Love is rarer than ye think, laddie. It’s a gift, an’ if the universe sees fit to present ye with it more than the once, well then, count yerself as truly blessed an’ grab it with both hands.’

And he does.

Q1)How happy were you that Pat goes back in and places Kate's hand on his heart?

Chapter Seventy-two; Times Gone and Still to Come…

As Casey walks home in the evenings he ponders his day and he thinks about a summer that he and Pat spent alone in the country. The two spent the summer living off the land, telling each other stories and talking about women.
He is coming up to the house and watches his family and specifically Pamela. He never thought, that summer long ago he would have a woman like his wife.

Q1) Well, all I can ask is, doesn’t this chapter sum up the way you would want your love to feel about you?

I have been watching the Opening Ceremonies while typing this, so please forgive me any short questions.

Thank you for letting me participate in the Book Discussion for Cindy’s book! I have loved doing this.
