What I know of this storyline so far is that he definitely had his reasons for getting involved- no doubt to give himself some leverage in the situation in his own country. It's possible this is why he was the conduit between the IRA and the British govt. as well. I've only had glimpses of his past in this area, but it's much more complex than what the published story has so far revealed. -- Shamrocks & Stones
