If he is to die, and he assumes he is, he wants to die with his integrity intact. This is his greatest fear, and I believe he is able to stay true to his beliefs. • Katniss doesn't risk going into the Cornucopia, but she thinks it is worth the risk to get something useful and the items in the backpack do prove invaluable to her survival. Certainly her previous hunting expeditions in the seam give her an advantage, the ability with bow and arrow, foraging, and the patience to hone these skills helps her, and later, the two of them. The careers have been trained in certain things that will prove advantageous, but Katniss has a more well-rounded education gained from personal survival experiences.   • I felt it was the skills Katniss learned from her father, the same skills that allowed her (and her sister and mom) to survive life in the Seam, that allowed her to survive in The Games. The training the Careers got was, perhaps, more abstract in that they weren't fighting to survive each and every day of their lives, trained yes, but not using those skills to survive--at the end of a day of training, they likely had plenty to eat, etc. Does that make sense?     • It makes perfect sense! You can't teach some skills they are often just part of who the person is. Katniss has the advantage because she's lived on the edge of starvation and had to problem solve to survive. The careers are taught skills, but their character isn't the same.
