Subject: 1) Katelina is intensely in love with Nicholas, but is in deep denial. She wants to destroy him mainly because she cannot have him. It's just that she is unable to acknowledge that to herself yet. (2) With Nicholas I figure every move he makes is the result of some level of calculation. Might be wise, might be stupid, but no matter what he does, he is almost always focused on the long term. (3) He's hedging his bets in an attempt to protect Katelina (and probably himself) from a vengeful Primaflora. He hasn't established total trust in her yet.
