When I was about 3/4's through Checkmate for the first time, I had a flash of a plotline whereby Lymond might take off (for Russia or something) and return in the end and that the last line of Checkmate would echo the first line of GofK: "Lymond is back." I can't tell you how glad I am that didn't happen! (NT) --
