• 1. Yes, I definitely think that amount was perfect, more is too much and as you know it's hard to keep our numbers steady. So I think the less pressure we have to move onto the next book, the better. 2. I think it works well both ways, I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a hard time coming up with questions sometimes. 3. I think that works well. I will say if you are planning on doing 'Angels' it may need about six weeks, rather than a month as it's going to fall somewhere in the 700 page range.           • I can see your point, it was just me being selfish and wanting the help of the group to muddle through DD's detailed writing! I should convince myself to read the books on my own to the end, and then enjoy the discussions here when they happen. That's what I did with Lymond, I can do it again!   • I think many of us had challenges that we faced in 2011 and sometimes prioritizing reading is a problem. That's why I wanted some input on how we go forward in 2012. This BDB is ours as a group and it won't function if we make it difficult for people to be involved. So maybe we do more books with outside questions? Shorten the amount of time on some? Read less books? Its really up to us to decide. So think about the questions and let me know what you think. We'll figure it out and there should be no regrets on anyone's part. Thank-you for taking charge of the 'open' discussions, and using outside questions is no problem as far as I'm concerned (easier is good, and I also have problems coming up with questions). 3.   • I like the idea of more "free" time for personal reading. Maybe doing more with outside questions (they usually average about 10 -15 questions) will shorten the discussion time on some of the books.       • I don't think we have a protocol *g*, but you could leave a message on the current thread (maybe bold the beginning to highlight that it belongs to previous book discussion) and make a post in the pub that the question has been posted on the BDB. I sometimes have time to start reading and participate but then at times life happens and I'm unable to either partially or fully participate in the discussions.   • I don't remember when casual visits were unwelcome - really? We've had ladies visit the BDB throughout the year and I'm sure those of us who regularly participate would love to have new people bring their point of view to a discussion, even it means an occassional visit. I've participated in all the discussions of 2011, but not full-time as I've been travelling and out of touch often. Join the discussions when you can, I'm sure that's fine.   • Tracy - I am sorry you felt that your coming and going in a discussion was frowned upon and I hope I never gave that impression. I have always tried encourage as many people to be involved. I think there were times when, in our original detailed format, that we'd start strong and then by the end those people who were writing out their summaries and questions were sort of talking to themselves as people fell out of the discussion. That can be discouraging when you are doing the summaries, but I think that's the negative aspect of those detailed summaries. You (and anyone else) are welcome to join in as you can. • It was a good year for book discussions! I apologize for not being able to take part in each one, though. The plan is to do a better job in 2012! I think everybody should feel welcome and free to take part in any portion of any discussion. Everybody's time is so limited these days, and I certainly don't mind if someone must drop out.
